The first Editors Poll of 1999 has been released. Please read the disclaimers on the Editors Poll that acknowledge the weaknesses of the system. It is also important to state that the Editors Poll is not really a poll at all. It is, in fact, how a meet would be scored if everyone who has turned in times and distances matched their top performance. These numbers come from our Best Performances link. It is important that you and your team keep us as up to date as possible with results from meets in which you participate. This will allow us to provide as accurate of information as possible and let everyone in the state know who has turned in the top 10 best performances in each event.
With that said, here is a quick look at the first poll results. The girls are lead by AAA Fairmont Senior and AA-A Doddridge with both teams currently having greater than a 25 point advantage over the second place team. The boys are lead by AAA Woodrow Wilson and AA-A defending champion Winfield. Woodrow holds a narrow lead over Cabell Midland, Wheeling Park and Capital. Winfield (in the closest title battle) holds a slight edge over Ritchie and Williamstown. AA-A girls defending champions Winfield is currently 6th, AAA girls defending champion Parkersburg is 4th and AAA boys defending champion Cabell Midland is second.
Positions will change rapidly over the next few weeks, and the next editors poll will be updated a few days after the next update of best performances. All of the teams listed on the current poll are either strong or have a dominant runner or two. The current teams will likely continue to be strong, but will have additional teams come to challenge them as the season progresses. Keep coming back, and we'll keep you up to date!
