Tristan Slater Biography

 

Tristan Slater (born on October 28th, 1997) is a West Virginia High School Pole Vaulter. Slater is a senior at Capital High School in Charleston, West Virginia. He is a three-time AAA Boy’s West Virginia High School state champion, three-time WV Region III AAA boy’s champion, and a two-time Mountain State Athletic Conference champion.  

Slater has been ranked WV#1 for the last 3 years, and has only lost one time competing against West Virginia High School boy’s. His only loss came on March 28th, 2013 at Sam LeRose, Stan Smith, and Walt Dryden Invitational where he placed second to Hunter LeMasters of Tyler Consolidated. He holds the West Virginia High School boy’s pole vault record both indoors and outdoors. On February 27th, Slater set a new All-Time Pole Vault Mark at the Marshall Indoor High School Open with a vault of 17'1.

In 2013, he won the West Virginia AAU District National Qualifier (14’6”), WV USATF Track & Field Championship (14’0”), AAU Area 5 National Qualifier (14’6”), USATF Region 5 Junior Olympic Outdoor Championship (14’6”), AAU Junior Olympic Games (15’6”), while he placed 2nd at the USATF National JO Outdoor Track and Field Championship (14’7.25”) and 3rd at the Vault in the Ville Invitational (13’10”).

In 2014, he won the Vault in the Ville (15’8”), while placing 5th at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals (16’0”).

In 2015, he won the USATF Region 5 Championship (16’8.75”) and AAU Junior Olympic Games (16’4.75”), while he placed at the Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships (17’0.75”) and placed 9th at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor (16’1”). He ranked #8 in the United States for High School Boys Outdoor Pole Vault.

In 2016, he is currently ranked #5 in the United States for High School Boys Indoor Pole Vault.

During the 2016 outdoor track season, he will attempt to break the AAA Boy’s State Meet record in the Pole Vault, which was set in 1995 by Casey Freed of Parkersburg High at a height of 17'0”.

Slater’s Personal Track & Field Records: 100m - 11.40, High Jump - 4-10, Long Jump - 20-9.25, Pole Vault (Indoors) – 17’1”, Pole Vault (Outdoors) – 17’0.75”.

Tristan Slater’s hometown is North Bay, Ontario, Canada. He is on the Canada National Team.
