Maggie Drazba (born May 18) is a West Virginia high school
standout distance runner at the local and national levels. She was a 2013
graduate of St. Marys High School in Pleasants County, West Virginia.
Drazba won the West Virginia high school class AA-A girl’s
individual state cross country championship her freshman, junior, and senior
years. She was part of the St. Marys squad that won the 2009 AA-A West Virginia
Cross Country Championship. Drazba was the girls’ junior runner-up at 2012 USA
XC Championships. Her senior year she placed third at the Foot Locker South
Regional at McAlpine Greenway Park in Charlotte, North Carolina, while becoming
the first West Virginia high school female to qualify for the Foot Locker
National Championship held in San Diego, California. In addition, she was named Gatorade West Virginia Girls Cross Country Runner of
the Year her junior and senior years. She currently holds the West Virginia
State Meet record for cross country with a time of 17:17.89.
Drazba competed in the West Virginia High School Girl’s State Track
Meet in 16 events over her four years. The result was twelve gold medals. She won
the triple crown in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m her sophomore, junior, and
senior years, while winning the 800m and 1600m her freshman year. Her only
individual loss at the State Track Meet was during her freshman year in the
3200-meter run in which she was runner-up. Along the way she set a total of 8
State Track Meet records for Class A girls: two in the 800m, two in the 1600m,
three in the 3200m, and one in the 4x800 relay. She currently holds the West
Virginia Class A state meet record in the 1600m (4:56.23), 3200m (10:31.83) and
the 4x800-meter relay (9:48.85). She also has State Meet All-Time Bests of 7th
in the 1600 (4:56.23) and 3rd in the 3200m (10:31.83). Her top time in the
3000-meter run of 9:37.37 at the Penn Relays ranked No. 7 in the nation among
prep competitors in 2013. In addition, she was the winner of the 2012-2013 Gatorade
West Virginia Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year and the 2012 McCoy Award
for best female track person of the year.
Drazba will not only be remembered for her accolades, but for her
training where she logged between 101 and 106 miles per week for four weeks in
the summer before her senior cross-country season.
Drazba maintained a weighted 4.17 GPA in the classroom and
graduated as her school’s valedictorian. The president of the
St. Marys High National Honor Society and the treasurer of her school’s student
body.
Drazba’s track and cross-country coach at St. Marys High School was
Glenda Cottrill, while Jonathan Wright was her WV Flyers coach.
Drazba signed her national letter-of-intent to continue her career
at West Virginia University.
She is the daughter of Charles and Kathleen Drazba. Maggie has two
siblings, brothers named Charlie and Tony.

On October 31st, 2009, Drazba raced to the Class AA-A individual state championship with a time of 20:08.50,
leading the Blue Devils to a first-place finish as a team. She went undefeated
in 10 regular season races.
On May 21st-22nd, 2010, Drazba won the 800-meter run (2:24.39) and
the 1600-meter run (5:17.86). She was runner-up in the 3200-meter run (11:56.86)
and ran anchor leg on the runner-up Blue Devils 4x800 meter relay squad (10:12.57),
while leading St. Marys to a first-place finish as a team. She tied Lacey
Hampton of Bishop Donahue in high point honors with 30 points.

On October 30th, 2010, at the West Virginia high school girl’s
state cross country championship at Cabell Midland HS in Ona, Drazba placed 3rd
in the Class AA-A state championship with a time of 19:44, leading the Blue
Devils to fifth place as a team.
On November 27th, 2010, Drazba took 5th place in the Sophomore Girls
Race at the Foot Locker South Regional championships at Mc Alpine Greenway Park
in Charlotte (NC), crossing the line in 19:01.
On May 20th-21st, 2011, Drazba
set state meet records in the 800-meter run (2:24.32), 1600-meter run (5:14.08),
and 3200-meter run (11:07.47). Drazba also ran anchor leg on the Blue Devils
4x800 meter relay squad for a 3rd place finish with a time of 10:21.56, while
leading St. Marys to a third-place finish as a team. She was runner-up in high
point honors with 31˝ points.
On June 16th-June 18th, 2011, Drazba Placed 2nd in the 2 Mile Run
Emerging Elite in 11:03.77 (10:22.73 3000M en route) at the New Balance Outdoor
Nationals at North Carolina A+T University, Greensboro, NC.
In the voting for the 2011 female McCoy Award for Best Track
Person of the Year, St. Mary’s Maggie Drazba was second followed by
Buckhannon-Upshur’s Emily Godwin and Elkins’ Letitia Propst.

[Junior Year]
On October 29th, 2011, at the West Virginia high school girl’s
state cross country championship at Cabell Midland HS in Ona, the 5-foot-1
junior raced to the Class AA-A individual state championship with a time of 18:25.4, leading
the Blue Devils to second place as a team. Drazba broke the state meet record
with her 18:25.4 clocking, while earning her third First Team All-State
selection in cross country. The previous record of 18:29 was held by Letitia
Propst in 2008. Drazba won 9 out of 10 races during the regular cross-country
season and was runner-up in one.
On November 26th, 2011, Drazba took 13th place in the Championship
Girls Race at the Foot Locker South Regional championships at Mc Alpine
Greenway Park in Charlotte (NC), crossing the line in 17:40. (Ranked
#21 Juniors/#61 All United States High School Girls 5K).
On January 12th, 2012, in its 27th year of honoring the nation’s
best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN HS,
announced Maggie Drazba of St. Marys High School as its 2011-12 Gatorade West
Virginia Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. Drazba is the first Gatorade
West Virginia Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from St.
Marys High School.
On February 11th, 2012, Drazba was runner-up in the Junior Women’s
6K at the USATF Cross Country Championships at Forest Park in St. Louis (MO),
crossing the line in 21:07.7. Drazba earned a berth onto the American squad for
the North American, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country
Championship in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
It is noteworthy to mention that Drazba was the only high school
athlete on the U.S. Junior Squad and one of five women to represent the U.S.
On March 17th, 2012, Maggie Drazba represented Team USA at the
NACAC Championships at Port of Spain in Trinidad. Drazba took 4th place in her
event in helping Team USA to the team championship in her division. Drazba
competed in the Junior Women's Division and completed the 4K
course in 14:11.70.
April 13th, 2012, Drazba ran 4:51.88 in the 1600-meter run at the
Pizza House Invitational at the Ritchie County High School Track in Ellenboro,
WV, which at the time was a new state record.
On April 26th, 2012, Drazba placed 7th in the High School Girls’
3000 Meter Championship in 9:55.66 at the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin
Field in Philadelphia, PA.
On May 18th-19th, 2012, at the West Virginia high school girl’s
state track meet at Laidley Field in Charleston, the 5-foot-1 junior won three
individual state championships at the Class A state meet and led the Blue
Devils to a third-place finish as a team. Drazba won the 800 meters in 2:20.35,
the 1600 meters in 4:56.23, the 3200 meters in 10:59.09, and anchored the Blue
Devils winning 4x800 meter relay team (9:48.85), which were all new state meet records. Drazba was runner-up in high point
honors with 32˝ points, while leading her team to a third-place finish.
In addition, Drazba won the 2012 McCoy Award for best female track
person of the year.

On October
27th, 2012, at the West Virginia high school girl’s state cross country championship
at Cabell Midland HS in Ona, Drazba raced to her third Class AA-A individual state championship in four years with a time of
17:17.89. Her 17:17.89 clocking is the West Virginia State Meet record for
cross country. Drazba earned her fourth First Team All-State selection in cross
country, while going undefeated in 10 races during the regular cross-country
season.
On November 24th, 2012, Drazba earned 3rd place in the Championship
Girls Race at the Foot Locker South Regional championships at Mc Alpine
Greenway Park in Charlotte (NC), crossing the line in 17:10 to qualify for the
national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. (Ranked #9
Seniors/#16 All United States High School Girls 5K).
It is noteworthy to mention that St. Marys Maggie Drazba would
become the first West Virginia High School female cross-country runner to
qualify for the national championship.
On December 8th, 2012, Drazba finished 22nd in the country in the Girl's
5k Championship with a time of 18:06 in the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships
at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA.
On January 10, 2013, in its 28th year of honoring the nation’s
best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA
TODAY High School Sports, announced Maggie Drazba of St. Marys High School as
its 2012-13 Gatorade West Virginia Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
On February 2nd, 2013, Drazba placed 15th in the Junior Women’s 6K
with a time of 22:04.30 at the USA Cross Country Championships at Forest Park
Central Fields in Saint Louis, MO.
On March 8th-10th, 2013, Drazba placed 14th in the Girls 5000
Meter Run (17:40.43) and 7th in the Girls 2 Mile Run (10:29.60) at New Balance
Indoor Nationals at the New Balance Armory in New York, NY. Drazba’s 2 Mile Run
would convert to the fasted 3200 meters in WV High School history until it was
broken by Amelia Paladino in 2014.
On April 25th, 2013, Drazba was runner-up in the High School
Girls' 3000m Championship (9:37.37) at Penn Relays at Franklin Field in
Philadelphia, PA. Her top time in the 3000-meter run of 9:37.37 at the Penn
Relays ranked No. 7 in the nation among prep competitors in 2013.
On May 17th-18th, 2013, at the West Virginia high school girl’s
state track meet at Laidley Field in Charleston, the 5-foot-1 senior won three
individual state championships at the Class A state meet and led the Blue
Devils to a fifth-place finish as a team. Drazba won the 800 meters in 2:21.42,
the 1600 meters in 5:03.53 and the 3200 meters in 10:31.83. Her 10:31.83 in the
3200 meters was a new state meet record for class A
girls. Drazba also ran anchor leg on the Blue Devils 4x800
meter relay squad for a 5th place finish with a time of 10:36.76.
On June 14th-16th, 2013, Drazba placed 14th
in the Girls 2 Mile Championship (10:41.82) and 10th in the Girls 1 Mile
Championship (4:54.43) at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina
A+T University, Greensboro, NC.
On June 19, 2013, in its 28th year of honoring the nation’s best
high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY
High School Sports, announced Maggie Drazba of St. Marys High School as its
2012-13 Gatorade West Virginia Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
Drazba is the first Gatorade West Virginia Girls Track & Field Athlete of
the Year to be chosen from St. Marys High School.
On June 20th, 2013 Drazba placed 4th in the Women’s 5000 Meter Run
Junior (17:11.49) at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at
Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Drazba was ranked in the top 100 nationally in the 1600 meters and
3200 meters during the 2013 spring track season.
