This past weekend, three West Virginia High School athletes competed at the Footlocker National Outdoor Championships held at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Competitors from West Virginia were East Fairmont's Holly Hunter, Oak Hill's Erin Compton, and Nitro's Andrew Kessler.

Andrew Kessler competed in the Pole Vault but was unable to clear the opening height of 13'7.

Holly Hunter competed in both the 1600 and 3200 at the meet. In the 3200 on Friday night, Hunter finished 26th overall with a time of 11:09.16. Vermont's Erin Sullivan won the event with a time of 10:17.67. Hunter fared better in the 1600. Despite coming up short of her goal of a sub-5:00 mile, she finished 16th with an outstanding time of 5:04.47. The winning time of 4:48.68 was turned in by New Jersey's Erin Donahoe.

Erin Compton had the best showing of the West Virginia athletes with her 5th place finish in the discus. Her throw of 138'1 was just 3 inches off 4th place. The winning throw by Emily Duran of Nebraska covered 150'8.

Each of these three athletes are to be congratulated for their performances at this meet and throughout the season.
