We have updated the Best Performances to include all information we had as of April 27th. We will attempt to update the link as often as possible with every weekend being our goal. If you have a time, height or distance you think should be listed, please send us the full results of the meet. Please check the Contacting Us link for details on how to get the information to us.

Our new fax number has been a success so far. We would like to thank all the people who hve been utilizing the fax and encourage them to continue. If you would like to send us your meet results by fax, our number is 624-5675. We would again like to thank One Valley Bank for the use of their fax machine for this purpose.

Finally, we are providing UNOFFICIAL TRACK RANKINGS. These rankings were done by adding up all the points from our Best Perfomances link as of April 18th. We used standard state track meet scoring for all six places and divided up the points when tied. I think it is important that we make you aware of the weaknesses of this ranking system. Here are the main weaknesses:

1. It does not include results from all teams across the state and only a few results from others. We are missing results from nearly every eastern panhandle team, some southern region teams and have only have all the track meet results for a few teams. This means that there may be some eastern panhandle powerhouse (or some team from another region) that is killing the competition over there, yet remains unranked on our site because we don't have any results from their meets.

2. Hand timing at many meets leaves something to be desired. We have witnessed several occassions where events have been timed nearly a full half second off. This can make a huge difference in rankings for sprint events such as 100, 200 and 110 hurdles. When we have witnessed this, we have noted it on the meet results and made manual adjustments to the times. However, we can't be at every meet and many other meets may have times that are also incorrect.

3. A great athlete may be trying different events and could possibly have attained rankings in four or five individual events as well as helping team relays get ranked in several other events. I am aware of at least one case where an athlete is ranked in 4 individual events and was likely a member of two team relay rankings. Since most papers and results do not list relay members, we have no way of taking this into account.

We will update the rankings using the Best Performances times as of April 27th within the next few days. Please remember to take these rankings for what they are-- a loose analysis of the results that we have.

Congratulations are due Nathan Fields of Elkins High School. At a meet in Buchannon he successfully cleared 7' 1" in the High Jump. This height propells the youth far ahead of any other high jumpers in the state.

WE NOW HAVE FAX SERVICE AVAILABLE!!! SEND US YOUR MEET RESULTS AT (304)624-5675. We would like to thank One Valley Bank for the use of their fax machine for this purpose. We will accept faxed copies of official scoresheets or newspaper articles as well as results sent by email and the U.S. Postal Service. Please check the Contacting Us link for additional information.

In addition to adding several invitationals and small meets during the last week, we have also updated our Best Performances link. The Best Performances link lists the top six times in each event for each class. We will attempt to update this on a weekly basis. If you have a time that you think should be included in Best Performances, send us the meet results and we will input the times into our database.

We have added many invitationals and small meets during the last week. If yours is missing, send us your results by mail or email. We are working on getting fax service to assist in the transfer of results and will make the number available when and if the service becomes available.

If you haven't had a chance to check out the times for the Easter Special Invitational in Williamstown on April 4th, be sure to give them a look and take special notice of the times turned in by Ed Drummond of Linsly in the 100 (10.8) and 200 (22.4) meters. He achieved those times while obviously easing up the last 30 meters of the 100 and the last 100 meters of the 200. To my knowledge, Linsly is not able to compete in the State Track Meet and many will not get a chance to see this talented athlete run. We were not given Linsly's schedule, but if you hear that he is competing at a track near you, he alone should be well worth the price of admission. Ed Drummond was also listed as West Virginia's State Football Player of the year in many publications.

We hope to have information entered into the Best Performances link by April 20th. We intend to build up to the top six in each event in each class by the end of regionals.

Track season is under way with a bang. Check out all our informational links including Invitationals, Small Meets, Past State Meet Results (97,96,95 and State Records) and Team Schedules. Within the next few weeks, we will be adding to the Best Performances link that will list the top times and distances in each event for each class. We will be using Track and Field News to keep you informed of happenings within the state dealing with track and field. We will also tell you who is turning in hot times and who to watch out for going toward states and regionals.

Is your meet or team schedule missing? If so, please send us your results and/or schedules. To see how to contact us, please click on the "Contacting Us" link on the left hand side of the page. We will accept email or regular mail. We can't keep the site up to date without your help.

We will only be reporting the results of West Virginia teams even if the meet takes place inside West Virginia.

Finally, if you participate in Cross Country, be sure to look at the news section of our Cross Country Link. The last week has brought about some big changes for the sport including changing the place where the state meet is held.
