Cabell Midland's Michael Lunsford has been named the 2024 West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year. Lunsford capped his stellar Senior campaign with a State Championship in the Shot Put in which he had the 2nd Best Ever State Meet Shot Put performance with a heave of 65'3.75. He added a 2nd place in the Discus with a toss of 156'7 in helping Cabell Midland to a runaway team victory. Earlier in the season, at the Tudor's Biscuit World Charleston Relays, he launched the Shot 68'6, the furthest throw in State History by over a foot.
