Dear Coaches,
After a tremendous amount of work in the last few days and finally a decent day to finish up the track striping, we should be good to go to host the Charlie Pritt Classic at Preston High School on Thursday, April 14th. Special thanks to the the following individuals / groups for all their assistance.
We have a new polyurethane surface, but the final gray top coat is not installed. The stripers will put down new lines this summer when the track is finished. The surface has a high energy return so it should provide some fast performances. Our PV and high jump mats are nearing the end of their lifespan, but those are projects for another day.
Due to Preston not releasing students until 3:15 p.m., we are asking teams not to arrive before that time period. We will start field events at 4:15 p.m. and running events at 5:00 p.m. This is a change to the original schedule. Speaking of field events, our friends at Morgantown High will be covering the Pole Vault and High Jump. Our county middle school coaches will cover the long jump. Our head girls coach, Jayme Bishop, will cover the shot put. That will leave the discus as an event that needs coverage. We will be willing to pay a certified coach or coaches to coordinate this event. Please call or text me at 304 290-3772 if you can offer any assistance. My crew of parents / volunteers that worked meets prior to COVIC are no longer around.
As stated in the original letter, we will run a modified one session meet with a small break after the 400. We will recognize our seniors at that time. Below is the full schedule for running events:
3200, 400, 20-30 minute break, 4 x 800, 100, 100 / 110 hurdles, 4 x 200, 1600, 300 hurdles, 4 x 100, 800, 200, Shuttles, 4 x 400. The 800 will be the featured event of the meet. We will award t-shirts to athletes in the top six positions. T-shirts will be given out to the winner of all other events.
It has been awhile, but we are excited to have a home high school meet at our venue. We look foward to hosting your team on Thursday.
Sincerely,
Paul Martin, Head Boys Coach
