State Meet Expanded to 3 Days

The WVSSAC has released its plan for Track season. While the timeframe has not changed from their earlier proclamation, with practice beginning on March 15, and the season concluding on June 12th, they have made a change to the State Meet format. The State Meet will now be held over 3 days with Class A competing on June 10th, Class AA on June 11th, and Class AAA on June 12th. Or as I like to call it...let's kill the distance runners.

If it isn't too late to come up with something different, I really hope they revisit this. While distance runners do sometimes compete in 4 events in a single-day meet, it isn't at championship level. That doesn't even factor in that in June, we're likely to be dealing with very hot temperatures, and if we run a normal two-session schedule, the 3200 will be run at just about the hottest time of day and will be the first event that the distance runners run. Of course, a single-day meet is also bad for sprinters, who normally get to spread their trials and finals over two days.

I know another proposal is in the works that would be an improvement on this, so I hope that they haven't etched it in stone yet. I would also hope that it could be revisited if the virus numbers come down as the season comes to fruition.
