Tori Starcher Named Ray McCoy Award Winner

Ripley's Tori Starcher, following her Junior season, has again been named the Ray McCoy Award winner as the female track athlete of the year for 2019. She was also the winner for 2018.

In the 2019 State Track Meet, Starcher set two State Meet Records and was part of a 3rd while helping her team squeeze out a 2 point victory for the team championship and finishing 2nd in the High Point race for the meet.

In the 800, Starcher took the win by over 2.5 seconds with a State Meet Record 2:08.40, which was also the top State Meet time in West Virginia History. She has 3 of the top 6 state meet 800 Meter Run performances. In the 1600, she took down the State Meet Record again with a 4:46.61 (taking the win by over 7 seconds). Like the 800, it was also the Best All-Time State Meet Performance. She has 3 of the top 4 state meet 1600 Meter Run performances. In the 3200, she won by nearly 10 seconds in 10:32.75, which was the 4th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 3rd Best AAA State Meet Performance. She has 3 of the top 5 All-Time State Meet Performances in the 3200 Meter Run. She anchored the 4x400 Meter Relay in 56.6 (not an official time) to help her team secure the meet win and record a Class AAA State Meet Record 4:01.64, which is also the Best All-Time State Meet Performance. She also anchored the #2 time on the list as a Freshman.

Despite all the outstanding State Meet runs, they weren't her top performance of the season. That came at the prestigious Penn Relays where she won the Girls Mile Run in 4:38.19 (which translates to a 4:36.58 for 1600 Meters). This mark also set a meet record (previously held by high school phenom Mary Cain) and a West Virginia All-Time Best.

Tori, who has signed with Stanford University, was trailed in the voting by Woodrow Wilson's Mikah Alleyne and Williamstown's Ella Hesson.
