Gus Lambert, Kieleigh Railey qualify For
USATF JR Olympic Nationals

Club athletes Gus Lambert
(Huntington Middle/Huntington, WV) and Kieleigh
Railey (Buffalo Elementary/Huntington, WV) have qualified for the USA Track
& Field Hershey National Jr Olympic Track & Field Championships based
on their Top-5 finishes at the USATF Region 5 Jr Olympic Championships that
were held July 5-8 on the campus of Olivet College in Olivet, MI. Featuring
athletes from West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio, it serves as the
qualifying meet for the USATF Hershey National Jr Olympic Track & Field
Championships.
Lambert qualified by placing 3rd in the
Midget (age 11-12) Boys Discus, with a mark of 10.65 meters, and 5th
in the Shot Put with a mark 4.94m. He also placed 8th in the
Aero-Javelin. This is the 2nd straight year he has qualified for the
national meet after qualifying in the Bantam (9-10) Boys Shot Put and
Mini-Javelin last summer.
Railey qualified for the national meet for the first
time by placing 5th in the Bantam Girls Mini-Javelin with a mark of
12.41m. She also finished 11th in the 800m and Long Jump. While this
will be her first time competing at the national meet in track & field, she
has previous competed at 2016 & 2017 USATF National Jr Olympic Cross
Country Championships.
Other athletes who scored at the Regional meet by
recording Top-8 finishes were Jocelyn
Johnson (Huntington Middle/Huntington, WV) who placed 6th in the
Youth (13-14) Girls Javelin and 8th in the Shot Put. Cadence Adams (Buffalo
Elementary/Huntington, WV) who placed 7th in the Midget Girls
Aero-Javelin, Stephen Jones (Spring
Hill Elementary/Huntington, WV) who placed 7th in the Bantam Boys
Mini-Javelin, and Connor Blake
(Southside Elementary/Huntington, WV) who placed 8th in the Midget
Boys Aero-Javelin.
Our
next meet will be the Ohio Track & Field Classic at Franklin Heights High
School in Columbus, OH on Saturday, July 21.
The
USATF Hershey National Jr Olympic Track and Field Championships are being held
July 23-29 at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State
University in Greensboro, NC.
