The West Virginia High School Goys
Track & Field Championship began in 1975 with all classes combined. In
1979, teams were awarded for class AAA and Class AA/A. In 2003, teams were
awarded for All Classes (AAA, AA, A).

Did you know?
High school track distances used to be
administrated in yards. Sprints were contested over 100, 220 and 440 yards and
the longer races were run over 880 yards, mile and 2-mile. But at the end of
the 1979 season that all changed
The 1980 spring track season was the first
year of conversion to the metric system for West Virginia high schoolers. Yes, RunWV still has state meet records for those events that
are no longer held.
