Ripley's Tori Starcher and Nitro's Luke Nichols were named the 2018 West Virginia Gatorade Players of the Year for Track & Field.

Starcher capped a dominant season by winning the 800, 1600, and 3200 at the State Track Meet, setting a State Meet Record in the 1600 and narrowly missing the 800 record, and was close to the 3200 record as well. She followed that by setting a West Virginia All-Time Best in the 800 at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a time of 2:07.42.

Nichols capped off his dominant High Jump season with his third State Championship with a leap of 6'8. He also cleared 6'10 a pair of times during the season, including at the Regional Meet.
