Oliver Luck Responds

Josh--thank you for the email and for your support of WVU. As you know per Big 12 bylaws we are obligated to add a men's sport. We have formed a small committee that is studying all aspects related to three of the men's sports that we once had at WVU but were dropped for a variety of reasons-men's track, men's golf and men's tennis. The group is looking at the ramifications of each program from a financial, recruiting, infrastructure and Title 9 perspective.

You may be interested to know that there are fundraising efforts taking place involving former student-athletes and friends of both the men's tennis and golf programs. This is important, obviously, since the financial aspects of this decision are paramount.

I will pass along your contact information to the Mountaineer Athletic Club, the fundraising arm of WVU Athletics. Thank you again for your email and for your interest in WVU.

Oliver

I know that several other people received the exact same e-mail response, so clearly, it's a canned response. My guess is that he's not really reading much of anything. My take on this is that you basically only have to read one portion to know where things stand. The second paragraph says it all. "There are fundraising efforts taking place involving former student-athletes and friends of both the men's tennis and golf programs." That can be read as "you have to bring in big donations if you want me to listen to you." Therein lies the problem. Jim Justice at the Greenbrier can probably write a single check that assures that golf will be the selection. But I refuse to give up hope. If we cannot win the fundraising battle, perhaps we can wear him down with volume. I continue to urge you all to contact him via e-mail or regular mail.
