Tri-State Athletic Club athletes Daniel Brown and Elizabeth Mitchell have qualified for the USATF National Jr Olympic National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, CA on the basis of their performances at the USATF Region 5 Championships held at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY.
Brown (Huntington, WV/Huntington HS), the 2010 West Virginia AAA 200m State Champion, qualified by virtue of his runner-up finishes in the Young Men's (17-18) 100m and 200m. This is the second time he has earned a place in the national meet, having previously qualified in 2008 when the meet was held in Omaha, NE.
Mitchell (Kenova, WV/Rose Hill Christian) earned her first trip to the national meet by finishing 2nd in the Midget Girls' (11-12) 1500m.
Other Tri-State Athletic Club athletes competing at the regional meet were Kaleb Angle (Huntington, WV/Spring Hill Elementary), Aiden Harshbarger (Huntington, WV/Southside Elementary), Ethan Hess (Barboursville, WV/Davis Creek Elementary), Akila Juan (Ceredo, WV/Spring Valley HS), and Nick Mitchell (Kenova, WV/Buffalo Middle).
The USATF National Jr Olympic Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place July 27-August 1 at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College in Sacramento, CA.
