2009 Ray McCoy Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2009 Ray McCoy Award for Track & Field/Cross Country Athlete of the Year in West Virginia are West Virginia University's Clara Grandt and Richmond's Andrew Benford.

Grandt had a stellar 2009 that included an 8th place finish at the USA Cross Country Nationals, setting the WVU school record in the 5000 on multiple occasions, setting the WVU school record in the 10,000, winning the 5,000 at the Big East Championships, and finishing 4th at collegiate nationals in the 10,000, getting to compete at the USA Track Nationals in the 10,000, finishing 5th in the Big East Cross Country championships, finishing 8th in the Big East Cross Country Championships, and earning All-American Honors in Cross Country.

Benford's 2009 included earning a spot on the United States World Mountain Running team that competed in Madesimo, Italy. Benford finished 13th in that event. He also won Atlantic 10 championships in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase and the 5,000. He later won the USATF 5K Championship race in Huntington.
