University of Charleston coach Bruce Cox has undertaken the task of creating an All-Time List for distance events. He has elected to start with the Men's lists. The most recent version of the list can be found HERE. I'll try to update that file as frequently as Coach Cox send me updates. Below is the text of his initial posting regarding this list.

Just prior to Kim Nutter’s diagnosis, he & I had been discussing how many of today’s young runners & young coaches don’t have a full understanding & appreciation for the history of distance running in West Virginia. He & I also discussed putting together a list of the top runners of “All-Time”.

Well, like so many other things, this project got put on the back-burner. However, have been thinking about this a lot lately & have decided that I would go ahead and start putting this together & do it as a tribute to Kim, himself clearly one of West Virginia’s “All-Time Bests”.

Will start with MEN, but plan on continuing on with WOMEN later.

To start, we will include the following track distances; 800m/880y; 1000m/1000y; 1500m/Mile; 3k/2 Miles; 5k/3 Miles; 10k/6 Miles & 3k Steeplechase, along with the Charleston Distance Run; Wheeling Distance Run and ANY Marathon. Still contemplating, but will probably convert times to the current metric distance, with perhaps the 1500/Mile being the only exception since they are both still run in major competitions. Times can be from high school, college or professional…if it was run it deserves to be on the list….this is “All-Time”!!!

To be eligible, the athlete must be either a true West Virginia “native” or have “graduated” from a West Virginia High School.

Over the past few days, with the help of many dear friends, we have put together the following list, along with some speculation on some as to what events they might well surface on the list. Now that a decent list is coming together, we are searching for additions and contact information…
