Tri-State Athletic Club Members Qualify for Nationals
Three members of the Tri-State Athletic Club qualified for the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Walnut, CA at this past weekend’s USATF Region 5 Championships in Cedarville, OH. Taylor Stacy (Huntington, WV/Vinson Middle School) won the Youth (13-14 yrs. old) Boys 1500m, becoming the first TSAC member to win a Regional Championship Stacy had also previously qualified for the AAU National Championships in the Sub-Youth (13 yrs. old) 1500m to be held in Knoxville, TN in August. Jordan Merritt (Wayne, WV/Wayne Middle School) finished second in the Youth (13-14) Girls 800m and also finished fourth in the 1500m, with the top three in each event qualifying for Nationals. Savannah Rutherford (Huntington, WV/Spring Valley High School) finished third in the Intermediate Girls (15-16) 800m, actually becoming the first club member to earn a Regional medal with her bronze on Saturday. Also competing this past weekend were Tri-State Athletic Club members Daniel Brown (Huntington, WV/Huntington High School) who placed 8th in the Intermediate Boys 100m, and Haley Merritt (Wayne, WV/ Wayne Middle School) who competed in the Midget Girls (11-12) 200 and 400m.
The USATF National Junior Olympic Championships will be held July 24-29 in Walnut, CA at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, home of the Mt. SAC Relays, one of the nation’s largest annual track & field competitions. All members of the Tri-State Athletic Club will next compete Tuesday, July 17th at Huntington High School in the second All-Comers Meet as part of the Tri-State Athletic Club & Huntington High School’s 2nd Annual Summer Series which continue July 24th, and conclude July 30th. Everyone ages 5 & up are invited to compete and remember all proceeds from concessions go to charity.
