On Saturday, University's Amber Riley won her section of the 2000 Meter Steeplechase in 7:04.70, winning by just over 3 seconds and fast enough for 8th overall in the event. Riley led most of this race.
Also on Saturday, Preston's Kaylyn Christopher ran in a pair of events. She won her section of the 800 in a stellar 2:10.66. Christopher led from the gun in the race and won her section by nearly a second. Christopher ran in the 3rd of 7 sections of the event. Her time was faster than the 4th and 5th section winners as well as all those from the first two sections. The time ended up as the 11th fastest overall as the 6th and 7th sections were the fastest two sections.
In Christopher's second event, the strong run in the 800 obviously came back to hinder her in the mile as she managed a 30th place overall finish (13th in her section) with a time of 5:10.21.
Congratulations to each of these athletes for excelling in their sport and representing our State well at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
