The Top Ten All Time State Meet athletes have been updated. Included in this update were the trial times for the state meet in all events as well as all marks from 2002 through 2006.
Boys AAA
Added to the list were Woodrow Wilson's Tom Reid (6), Stonewall Jackson's Oscar Jones (9) and Parkersburg's Casey Freed (10). They replaced Capital's Donald cunningham, Dupont's Bubby Dent and Huntington's Robert Walker. No athletes from the 2000 era managed to crack the list, but the list changed quite a bit due to the inclusion of the trial times. Reid and Jones excellent trial times brought them onto the list and due to some downward movement by other athletes, pole vault record holder Casey Freed moved onto the list.
Boys AA-A
The highest newcomer was Berekely Springs's Tony Belt (the 2007 NCAA indoor long jump champion) who now checks in at number three. Also taking a spot on the list were Dunbar's Eric Knapper (8) and Winfield's Brad Keys (10). Knapper's trial times moved him onto the list while Keys and Belt were added from results from the past 5 years. The replaced St. Mary's Paul Reed, Ravenswood's Chris Claudio and Ceredo Kenova's Larry Brandon.
Girls AAA
The AAA girls list involved some MAJOR shuffling due to the current era phenoms. Hurricane's Kristen Loughry (3), Preston's Kaylyn Christoner (4), Jefferson's Shardyl Twyman (5) and Capital's Jennifer Hansen (9). Christopher still has a year to take aim at the top spot and Holly Hunter. Also waiting in the wings is Buckhannon Upshur's Chelsea Carrier who stands in the 12th position with a year to go as well. Falling off the list were Parkersburg's Roxanne Ward, Huntington's Molly Pancake, Fairmont Senior's Kristy Beans and Huntington's Genita Dickey.
Girls AA-A
Three current era phenoms were added to the AA-A list as well. Fayetteville's Jasmine Cotten (4), Berkeley Springs's Rachel Buser (6) and Sissonville's Jennifer Povick (8) were added to the list. Buser has two years to go and has a very legitimate shot at Jessica Taylor on the top of the list. Additionally, Megan Mock of Berkeley Springs is just off the top ten list and currently resides at number 13. She also has two years to go and will likely be on the list by next year. The 3 additions above replaced Doddridge's Susan Robinson, Grafton's Becky Summers and Ravenswood's Jill Balis.
In the other things to watch for category, Buckhannon Upshur's Chelsea Carrier has a shot at the all time state meet points total mark currently held by Jasmine Cotten of Fayetteville (122). To the best of my knowledge, the all time points list looks like this.
1. Jasmine Cotten Fayetteville 122 2. Jessica Taylor Fayetteville 120 3. Holly Hunter East Fairmont 116.5 4. Bob Wright Huntington 110 (modern era equivalent) T5. Jennifer Povick Sissonville 108 T5. Chelsea Carrier Buckhannon Upshur 108 7. Pete Barnum Parkersburg 103 (modern era equivalent) 8. Paul Reed St. Marys 102.5 9. Jill Balis Ravenswood 101 10.
