2006 Track Coaches' Committee Meeting

I received an e-mail from someone who attended the Track Coaches' Committee Meeting. The following is a quick run-down of the happenings.

1. State Meet will start at 2:00 on Friday to allow kids an extra hour to get home and sleep Friday night. Passed 17-0

2. All regionals in a class will be held on the same day, either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, to be rotated according to the following schedule. passed 17-0
2007: A Wed, AA Thurs, AAA Friday
2008: AA Wed, AAA Thurs, A Fri
2009: AAA Wed, A Thurs, AA Fri

3. Ritchie Co. proposal to take top 3 places plus the next 4 fastest times from regionals PASSED 11-6. In the event of ties, the Games Committee will determine the exact procedure and will read pictures from regionals if need be. In addition, ALL regional facilities must have finishlynx. -- Editor's Note - To me, this is the most important one of all. If only one proposal passes muster with the WVSSAC Board, it should be this one.

4. Clarification as to which non-sanctioned events WV schools can compeat. We can compete in any event not longer than an event that is sanctioned. Which means we can compete in the 1500 or 3000. Also, hammer and javlin are prohibited. Triple Jump is allowed. passed 17-0

5. Order of events change for one session and two session meets, including regionals. The 300H and Shuttles will be switched. passed 10-7

6. A variety of starting blocks will be provided by Laidley Field. Still, no team is allowed to bring their own. The blocks that will be provided are the ones Laidley already has, Newton International blocks, another type of standard blocks that will be determined later, and I can't remember whether they will provide Moye blocks or if it will remain that the team brings those.

7. There was also a proposal submitted late that the State Meet switch to a 1 day meet with each class competing at different sites, but wasn't voted on. -- Editor's Note - What an absolutely awful idea! Let's toss the track fans out the window and only let them see 1/3 of what's going on.

8. Regional Sites

Reg 1 A Wheeling Park 5/9
             AA Ritchie County 5/10
             AAA Wheeling Park 5/11
Reg 2 A Lewis Co. 5/9
             AA Lewis Co. 5/10
             AAA Lewis Co. 5/11
Reg 3 A Woodrow/Oak Hill/Laidley 5/9
             AA Woodrow/Oak Hill/Laidley 5/10
             AAA Laidley Field 5/11
Reg 4 A Parkersburg/Park South 5/9
             AA Winfield 5/10
             AAA Hurricane/Parkersburg 5/11

The region 3 sites in A and AA are contingent on whether Oak Hill can provide finishlynx and an acceptible facility. Likewise with Hurricane.

Seven of the above eight will be submitted to the WVSSAC Board for final approval. Most of the proposals I can take or leave, but # 3 is an absolute must. As a result, in order to maintain as much fairness as possible, # 2 needs to happen as well.
