West Virginia youth will be competing in two different Regional Track & Field Competitions this week. Forty young athletes led by State Champion Pole Vaulter Seth Beckner will travel to Millersburg Ohio to compete in the USA Track & Field Region 5 Championships July 6-9. The top three finishers in each event will qualify for the USATF National Championships at Morgan State University's new facility in Baltimore, Maryland.

In AAU action the Capital City Striders will have 72 athletes at the AAU Region 6 Championships in Merrillville IN July 5-9. State Champion and high point winner Chelsea Carrier of Buckhannon will lead the Striders efforts with her first Heptathlon competition beginning on July 5th. After the two day multi event competition Ms. Carrier will also compete in the 100m, 200m 100 Hurdles and the Long Jump. Other State High School Champs competing with the Striders, trying to qualify in Merrillville include Christinia Saunders of Fayetteville and Seth Beckner of Buffalo. Top four finishers in Merrillville will qualify for the AAU Jr. Olympics at Norfork State University in Norfork VA.
