I thought I would forward information that was sent to high schools throughout the East. The information pertains to our high school meet scheduled for January 26-27, 2001 and will hopefully help with the entry procedures. The Microtel Invitational at Virginia Tech will bring together many of the top high school track & field athletes in the eastern United States. It is sure to be one of the primary recruiting stops for many of the top university coaches in the country and the meet will provide an opportunity for high school athletes to compete on one of the top 3 indoor tracks in North America.

Requests for information have already been received from high school coaches and/or athletes in the following states: VA, NC, SC, TN, KY, WV, GA, OH, MD, PA, NJ, NY, DC, and MA. We believe this will be the biggest, best, and most competitive high school meet Virginia Tech has ever hosted. There will be a maximum number of 2500 entries accepted on a "first-come- first-served basis." Then the meet will be closed...So, please enter at the earliest moment. Please visit the site and bookmark it for future reference. Once the site is open for business...I will forward a message to you at this address... I will also forward the final time schedule to you at this same address when it's available, which will be after scratches and updates are received on Monday, January 22. If you are on this list you will know sooner than anyone else...

Dear Track & Field Coaches:

Virginia Tech will be hosting one High School Invitational during the 2001 indoor season. The MICROTEL INVITATIONAL will be held January 26 and 27.

We are asking that all schools enter on-line. The on-line entry site is, www.hokiesportsinfo.com/itrack/entry.stm. To secure your team or individual entry, you must list a credit card (school or personal) and the corresponding number and expiration date for the entry fee. Please note that it is an "Entry Fee", Not a "Race Fee". So, once you submit your teams entry you have entered the meet and are subject to the entry fee. No credit cards will be charged until after the meet. If you prefer to send or bring a school check, that check will be used in lieu of the credit card. All checks should be written to, "Treasurer of Virginia Tech". Entries will close when we reach a maximum number of 2500, so please enter early. You may go to the website and enter your athletes starting January 12, 2001. You may update performances on Monday, January 22, 2001 to insure proper seeding or to scratch any athlete.

Please remember this is not an all comers meet. DO NOT ENTER any athletes that do not meet the minimum entry standards (See following page).

The time schedule will be finalized once the entries are closed and final scratches are made. Copies will be available at the meet headquarters- Mictrotel Hotel on Friday, January 26, 2001. The final time schedule will also be available on our website located at: www.hokiesportsinfo.com/itrack.

Both of these hotels are close to the track and very close to a large number of food establishments.

MEET DATE: January 26-27- Friday and Saturday

MEET SANCTION: NFHS

ENTRY FEE: $5.00 per event per athlete, $20.00 per relay. Checks should be made payable to, "The Treasurer of Virginia Tech" (If you have an athlete in 3 events you will be charged $5 for each event = $15.). This is an ENTRY FEE, not a race fee. It is NON-REFUNDABLE! ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT PAYMENT or a Credit Card. You may use a credit card to enter on-line www.hokiesportsinfo.com/itrack/entry.stm and bring your school check to the door on meet day.

MEET STANDARDS: This meet is open to all eligible high school students. Trials will be run in the 55H and 55M dashes. The top 54 entered times will be seeded; all others will run in non-qualifying heats. All other running events will be run in sections on time. Please do not neglect putting an accurate performance down for your athletes. Last year's performance will be allowed for 2001 participation. There will be no Freshman 1600 in this meet.

MINIMUM STANDARDS: PLEASE DO NOT enter athletes that do not meet the minimum standards. Only athletes achieving the minimum standards will receive final marks. Athletes NOT meeting the minimum standards will not receive final marks (Example- a boy entered in the 500M that runs 1:12.21 will not receive an official time).

MAXIMUM ENTRIES: The meet will be limited to the first 2500 entries received on-line. There is a STRONG possibility the meet will reach the maximum number of 2500 by January 13th, 2001. Please be aware of this and enter your athlete(s) early. You may update performances on January 22 at 6:00 p.m. to insure proper seeding.
