100 Meter Dash
Valley Fayette's Andrea Perry won a race that had to be decided by the photo in the press-box. The race was so close that the times had to be broken down to the thousandths. In the end, Perry had edged Wheeling Central's Kristin Roman by a mere 0.003 seconds. Both competitors were clocked at 12.88 seconds. Richwood's Pam Nettles, third in the race, was the only underclassman to place.

1600 Meter Run

Grafton's Heather McDaniel finished a strong third in the event with a time of 5:25.03. Braxton's Erin Boggs also ran under 5:30.

3200 Meter Run
Jessica Taylor repeated in this event as well, escaping the clutches of the field early and then maintaining a steady advantage throughout the second mile. 4 X 800 Meter Relay
Grafton broke open a tight race for first on the last leg and went on to win by over 8 seconds. Grafton missed setting a state record by less than two seconds. Magnolia coasted in to an easy third.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Doddridge managed to run nearly as fast in the rain than they had in the trials the night before, and that was enough to secure the victory. Weir finished a strong second place and Braxton claimed the third spot.

Long Jump
Andrea Perry continued her season-long dominance of the long jump by winning the event with a leap of 17'7, less than three inches from the state record. Pam Nettles also soared beyond 17 feet. With 300 meters remaining Farudi started her finishing kick and she never let off as she cruised to a 2:18.80 time and convincing victory. Stephanie Eastman used a strong last 100 Meters to pass defending champion Holly Hunter of East Fairmont for second place. Eastman and Hunter each ran under 2:20.

1600 Meter Run
Holly Hunter cruised to an easy victory and did so in record time. Her time of 5:04.00 beat her existing state record by over a second. Susan Davis of Hampshire scored an easy second place with a time of 5:17.16. Fairmont Senior's Sarah Corley claimed third place.

Fairmont Senior's Rebecca Ripoli followed very closely behind with a time of 45.93. Hedgesville's Nancy Regalbuto overcame the disadvantage of running in the "slow" heat to grad third place.

4 X 100 Meter Relay

4 X 200 Meter Relay
Capital cruised to nearly a two second victory (1:44.75) despite a pair of below average hand-offs. Jefferson was an easy second place, and Morgantown took third by a narrow margin.

4 X 400 Meter Relay
Buckhannon-Upshur took the lead for good in the middle of the third leg and finished strong to win the event by over 5 seconds. Fairmont Senior finished a strong second. Martinsburg came away with third place in a tight race that saw the third through sixth place teams all finished in 4:15.

4 X 800 Meter Relay

Ilora Cipolat of Woodrow Wilson dominated the event with her top three throws being better than anyone else's best, her best being 122'7. Parkersburg's Allison Burner claimed second place, and Capital's Lashawna Moss surprised the field to take third place.

Shot Put
Roxanne Ward smashed the state record on her first throw and didn't have to look back as she took a 3 1/2 foot victory in the shot put. Her throw of 41'2 3/4 broke the existing record by nearly 6 inches. Martinsburg's Tasha Hedges claimed an easy second place with her throw of 38'7 1/4. No other competitors reached 37'.

Pole Vault
The AAA pole vault was cancelled for the safety of the athletes due to rainy conditions, a decision that RunWV supports vigorously. However, it was also determined that there would be no makeup of the event. That means that competitors like Mary Beth Held, Ashley Dunn and Darcy Thompson, each of whom had beaten the existing state meet record by at least one foot during the season, will not get their chance to become state champions or owners of a state record. It also means that Parkersburg, who had two competitors in the event, will not get their chance to gain a state championship for their team. It also means that Fairmont Senior and Hampshire, each having a competitor in the event will not get to find out who is truly the number three team in the state. Needless to say, this is a decision that RunWV is wholeheartedly against.

AAA Boys

100 Meter Dash
Capital's Derrick Johnson blew away the field in the trials breaking James Jett's State Meet Record in the process. His time of 10.59 beat the existing record by 0.03 seconds. In the finals, it was once again Johnson pulling away in the last 30 meters to win by a tenth of a second. Jefferson's Carleton Wilcox claimed an easy second place, with South Charleston's Eddie Whitehead taking a solid third.

200 Meter Dash
Carleton Wilcox pulled away from the field down the stretch, while Parkersburg South's Chris Spencer edged defending champion Jemmel Pursoo of Cabell Midland for second place.

800 Meter Run
George Washington's Seth Crislip ran a fantastic race and fended off every challenge of runner-up Brent Garrett of Capital. Crislip's time of 1:55.10 was less than 0.8 seconds off the state record. Garrett ran a 1:56.66. Nitro's Brandon Johnson was the only other competitor to go under 2:00 (1:59.03).

1600 Meter Run

3200 Meter Run
One of the more exciting 3200 races in recent memory saw as many as 8 competitors in the lead pack for the bulk of 6 laps. On the seventh lap, St. Albans' Ben Lukowski made a move to create a gap between himself and the pack. The strategy worked as he created a gap that the other competitors were unable to make up. East Fairmont's Jonathan Wright and Tyler Devault raced each other so hard over the last 200 meters that they passed several other competitors and wound up in second and third place. Each of the top six finished in under 10:00. Lukowski 9:52.51, Wright 9:54.94, Devault 9:55.17, Hampshire's Shane Ruggles 9:56.44, Morgantown's Keith Rand 9:57.40, and Oak Hill's Jonathan Calhoun 9:58.58.

110 Meter High Hurdles

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Jemmel Pursoo followed his 400 Meter victory an hour earlier with a repeat performance in the 300 Meter Hurdles, passing runner-up Tony Shade between the last two hurdles. Pre-race favorite Jamar Dunnigan of Woodrow Wilson finished third. Each of the three ran under 40 seconds.

4 X 100 Meter Relay
Woodrow Wilson held off Riverside to claim the championship in the 4X100. Parkersburg South edged Capital for third.

4 X 200 Meter Relay
Woodrow Wilson grabbed a surprisingly easy victory in the 4X200, winning the event by over a second. Capital and Riverside took second and third in a tight finish that saw only 0.01 separate the two teams.

4 X 400 Meter Relay
Cabell Midland used the anchor leg of 400 Meter champion Jemmel Pursoo to take a narrow victory of a surprising Brooke team. Capital held on for third place, good enough to gain them the team title.

4 X 800 Meter Relay
Capital had Brent Garrett as its anchor, and no other team could respond to him. Cabell Midland grabbed second place over Parkersburg South.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Cabell Midland surprised by taking the victory after qualifying with only the fifth best time in the trials. Buckhannon-Upshur and Huntington were the only other teams under 1:00.

Pre-meet favorite Matt Morris of Woodrow Wilson won by nearly five feet as the discus took place in heavy rain. George Washington's Matt Moses claimed second place, and Hedgesville's Blake Bennett took third.
