The AAA race is a 4 team affair this year with 4 time defending champion
Cabell Midland being joined by Capital, Nitro and Woodrow Wilson. Capital
has been on top of the coaches' poll all year with Nitro and Woodrow Wilson
also near the top. Nitro has been on top of the Power Rankings for last few
weeks with Woodrow and Capital trading places. NEVER count out Cabell Midland
who has folied us for the last two by beating our number one choice each time.
Coach Parsons again has the team peaking at the right time and they could
once again upset our predictions. Nitro and Capital both have the potential
to score higher than predicted. Woodrow Wilson is not likely to score much
higher and have to hope that Capital and Nitro falter a little. Cabell Midland
has a little room for improvement as well so it should be interesting. The 4x400
could once again decide the meet as it has several times in the past with Capital,
Cabell Midland and Nitro all posting excellent qualifying times. Since we feel
we need to actually pick a winner, we need to dig a little deeper. Nitro could
score more points in the hurdle events, pick a few points in relays and also has
a chance to pick up significant points in the long jump and 800 meters. Capital's
best chance to pick up points comes in the sprint events (individual and relay).
They also could pick up a few points in the field events, but could just as
easily lose what they have. Due to the fact that Nitro appears to have more
upward potential and less downward potential, we will pick Nitro.

Team Analysis
Parkersburg and Capital appear to be ready to battle it out for the state crown.
The battle, however will be fought on decidely different fronts. Parkersburg
looks to score 56 of its 71 points in the 5 field events while Capital picks up
52 of its 70 points in the running events. The meet will likely be so tight
that every point will be crucial. There are few head-to-head match ups between
the two teams, but the 4x1 and shuttle relays are evenly matched and could
provide for some great drama. Roxanne Ward of Parkersburg is likely to face
Milan Cary (Long Jump) and Erica Reese (High Jump) in critical head-to-head
match-ups between the principal scorers on both teams. Capital will be looking
to try and scrape up a few points in the distance events and improve a few relay
positions while Parkersburg may grab a few more points in the hurdle events.
Fairmont Senior is the only other team to appear to have even an outside chance
at the title. They are several points behind but great performances out of Hall,
Corley and Thompson could put them on top. If Capital and Parkersburg both manage
to falter in a major event, Senior will be ready and waiting. Hampshire could
finish as high as third, but they are nearly maxed on points and only have 4
athletes going.
