To : All High School Cross Country Coaches

From: Richard Messenger, WV State Meet Director

After receiving a telephone call and email regarding cross-country uniforms, I just wanted to make sure that all our coaches and officials understand the NFHS uniform rule in effect for this year’s tournament series.

2025 NFHS Rule 4-3-2 – All Relay and cross-country team members must wear uniforms that clearly indicate, through predominant color, school logo and color combination of all outer garments worn as a uniform, that members are from the same team.

Also, NFHS Rule 4-3-1b5 – A single manufacturer’s logo/trademark reference, no more than 2 ¼ square inches with no dimension more than 2 ¼ inches, is permitted on the top and bottom. Bottoms may have the manufacturer's logo/trademark larger than 2 ¼ square inches around the waistband.

Some comments regarding uniform bottoms:

  1. NIKE PRO bottoms are LEGAL if there is only one logo on the bottom.
  2. CHICKNLEGS bottoms with logos on the front and rear are ILLEGAL.

West Virginia undergarment rule is solid color: school colors, black, gray or white.

If you have further questions regarding legality of uniforms, please forward pictures of those uniforms to Richard Messenger at rmessenger32@gmail.com.
