Remember, this is only how it looks from the rankings heading into the regionals. This is not a prediction based on any analysis of races held during the season. If a team has fewer than five ranked runners, it is assumed that their first unranked runner would finish a certain number of places behind the last ranked runner, their second unranked runner would another number of places behind the last ranked runner, etc. Runners run above and below their ranking in every meet, and the Regionals will be no different.
North Region: This Region will advance 6 teams. I have this very close with Morgantown edging out University by 2 points for the top spot. If Allison Hawkins is back for Morgantown, that would make them a solid favorite. She was dropped from the rankings due to inactivity. I do not know her status. Preston looks like a pretty solid bet for 3rd. I have Washington in the 4th spot with Musselman and Wheeling Park taking the other two spots. Individually, the top 10 ranked runners not on one of those 6 teams are Jefferon's Norah Keenan (#20), Jefferson's Elizabeth Riordan (#24), Spring Mills' Rayleigh Miller (#26), Martinsburg's Olivia Campbell (#36), Martinsburg's Claire Rivas (#39), Jefferson's Molly Sekerak (#41), Hedgesville's Riley-Faith Chapman (#45), Martinsburg's Caroline Smelko (#46), Hedgesville's Carissa McIntyre (#47), and Hedgesville's Riley Ellis (#53). There is only one runner within 60 points of this group. That is Martinsburg's Briana Gutierrez-Aldana (#65). The North Region has 67 Ranked Runners. I estimate 69 runners competing in this race.
South Region: This Region will advance 6 teams. Cabell Midland looks to be out front nicely. Hurricane appears to have a solid edge for 2nd over Parkersburg with Parkersburg South in the 4th spot. George Washington and Buckhannon-Upshur are the favorites for the final two spots. Individuall, the top 10 ranked runners not on one of those 6 teams are Oak Hill's Chrissa Mayfield (#28), Woodrow Wilson's Skyler Zimeng Ren (#34), Huntington's Charlotte Bowen (#36), Oak Hill's Clara Swank (#41), Woodrow Wilson's Lillian Bostwick (#46), Woodrow Wilson's Lakin Houck (#47), Huntington's Catie Kozar (#48), Woodrow Wilson's Leah White (#51), Oak Hill's Leila Smith (#53), and Woodrow Wilson's Violet Hartsock (#63). Kozar has not competed since 9/20. If she's out, that would move Oak Hill's Elisabeth Dale into the final spot. This batch of 10 brings up an interesting dilemma. Woodrow Wilson has 5 of these 10. They don't qualify as a team but will have a scoring level team at the State Meet. Do they count as a Team at the State Meet since there are 5 of them? If not, how do you get your scoring system to omit them from the scoring. I have posed this question to officials tonight. Runner's within 60 points of the those 10 are Oak Hill's Elisabeth Dale (#69), Woodrow Wilson's Taylor Murdock (#77), and Oak Hill's Sophie Ferrell (#71). The South Region has 82 Ranked Runners. I estimate 63 runners competing in this race.
