Regional Preview - Class AAA Girls

Remember, this is only how it looks from the rankings heading into the regionals. This is not a prediction based on any analysis of races held during the season. If a team has fewer than five ranked runners, it is assumed that their first unranked runner would finish a certain number of places behind the last ranked runner, their second unranked runner would another number of places behind the last ranked runner, etc. Runners run above and below their ranking in every meet, and the Regionals will be no different.

AAA Girls

Region I: This Region will advance 3 teams. It looks like Fairmont Senior has the edge for the top spot, and I have John Marshall edging out Grafton for 2nd. East Fairmont will have to have a very good day to swoop in and steal a spot. Individually, the top 5 ranked runners not on one of those 3 teams are Brooke's Elizabeth Edgell (#9), North Marion's Jadyn Duncan (#10), East Fairmont's Linsey Kramer (#11), East Fairmont's Lily Stuck (#14), and East Fairmont's Ryleigh Bills (#15). There are no ranked runners within 60 points of those 5 that aren't on an expected advancing team. The closest is East Fairmont's Emma Ice (#20). Region I has 24 ranked runners. I estimate 39 runners competing in this race.

Region II: This Region will advance 3 teams. Bridgeport has an edge over Elkins for the top spot. Those two are well ahead of the rest of the field. I have a very close race for the 3rd spot with Keyser taking the spot by just 2 points over Hampshire. Individually, the top 5 ranker runners not on one of those 3 teams are Hampshire's Bailey Nichols (#5), Hampshire's Piper Dawson (#12), Lewis County's Heidi Hefner (#13), Robert C. Byrd's Brea Lathon (#18), and Robert C. Byrd's Cadence Blake (#19). There are no ranked runners within 60 points of those 5 that are not on an expected advancing team. The closest is Hampshire's Addison Ritts (#24). Region II has 25 ranked runners. I estimate 32 runners competing in this race.

Region III: This Region will advance 3 teams. I have the top 3 teams all pretty close with just 8 points separating the group. I ended up with Herbert Hoover on top with Greenbrier East in 2nd and Shady Spring in 3rd. Individually, the top 5 ranked runners not on one of those 3 teams are PikeView's Carli Spade (#7), Ripley's Lanie Knopp (11th), Nicholas County's Madison Angus (#16), Nicholas County's Braylee Preast (#20), and Nicholas County's Shaelee Flanagan (#22). There are no ranked runners with 60 points of those 5 that are not on an expected advancing team. The closest is Capital's Harper Peck (#27). Region III has 33 ranked runners. I estimated 43 runners competing in this race.

Region IV: This Region will advance 3 teams. St. Albans looks to be well ahead of the field. I have Winfield taking the 2nd spot over Spring Valley by 10 points. Individually, the top 4 ranked runners that are not on those 3 teams are Nitro's Tessa Aulenbacher (#5), Nitro's Cora Kozen (#12), Lincoln County's Halli Byrd (#19), and Lincoln County's Megan Cummings (#22). That leaves one spot up for grabs. A quick look at things says the top candidate for that spot is Chapmanville Regional's Hannah Miller. Region IV has 22 ranked runners. I estimate 35 runners competing in this race.
