Regional Preview - Class A Boys

Remember, this is only how it looks from the rankings heading into the regionals. This is not a prediction based on any analysis of races held during the season. If a team has fewer than five ranked runners, it is assumed that their first unranked runner would finish a certain number of places behind the last ranked runner, their second unranked runner would another number of places behind the last ranked runner, etc. Runners run above and below their ranking in every meet, and the Regionals will be no different.

A Boys

Region I: This Region will advance 3 teams. St. Marys should hold the top spot, but Ritchie is within striking distance. Wood County Christian looks like they have the edge for the 3rd spot over Magnolia. Wood County Christian and Magnolia both only have 5 that have competed this year, and both have at least one runner that has competed just once (I think). If either team doesn't get 5 across the finish line, it hands the spot to the other team. The Top 4 ranked runners not on one of those 3 teams are Wheeling Central's Michael Hutnick (#3), Magnolia's Riley Dennis (#6), Magnolia's Alex Yeager (#19), Magnolia's Parker Werkau (#20). That leaves on spot up for grabs. A quick looks says the most likely candidate for the spot is Magnolia's Nicholas Matheny. Region I has 24 ranked runners. I estimate 26 runners competing in this race.

Region II: This Region will likely only advance 2 teams. Trinity Christian should have control of the top spot with Tucker taking the 2nd spot. The Top 2 ranked runners not on one of those two teams are East Hardy's Jonathan Montgomery and Notre Dame's Spencer Morgan. That leave 2 spots up for grabs. A quick looks says that the top candidates for those spots are Clay-Battelle's Robert Victor, Notre Dames Dakota Nutter, and Paw Paw's Taylor Carder. Region II has 14 ranked runners. I estimate 24 runners competing in this race.

Region III: This Region could advance 3 teams. Two should be in for sure. Mount View has had 5 guys run, but one of them only competed once and that was on 8/30. If he's out, it doesn't look like they score. I'll put him in for this. I have Webster County in the top spot pretty easily. Richwood holds the 2nd spot, and Mount View takes the 3rd. The top 2 ranked runners that aren't on one of those 3 teams are Greenbrier West's Jesse Walkup (#1) and Greenbrier West's Elijah Russell (#4). That leaves 3 spots up for grabs. A quick look says that the most likely candidates for those spots would be Greenbrier West's Dominic Mandeville, Meadow Bridge's Dean Ryan, and Greenbrier West's Gabriel Keaton. In the event that Mount View doesn't get 5 across the line, the 5 individuals would shift to Walkup, Russell, Mandeville, Ryan, and Mount View's Blane Sturgell. Region III has 5 ranked runners. I estimate 23 runners competing in this race.

Region IV: This Region will advance 2 teams. Charleston Catholic should win with ease, and Wirt County will take the 2nd spot. The Top 3 ranked runners not on one of those 2 teams are Calhoun's Jackson Clawson (#8), Calhoun's Levi Sillaman (#10), and Calhoun's Eli Ferrell (#14). That leaves 2 spots up for grabs. A quick look says that the top candidates for those spots are Calhoun's Zac Smith and Gilmer County's Tanner Facemire. Region IV has 15 ranked runners. I estimate 19 runners competing in this race.
