Steorts Competes at Nike Nationals

Nike Nationals was met with the worst of weather. It was very cold and rainy, and by the time the boys ran, 199 girls had already plowed through the wet course making it a sloppy and treacherous mess. Check out Runnerspace for the VIDEO of the mess.

Hurricane's Ty Steorts was among the favorites for the race, but it was not to be. After getting boxed in the middle at the start, he suffered multiple falls that eventually led to a DNF.

After getting caught up in the mess at the start, Steorts went through the 1K mark in 49th at 2:59.9. Despite being in the middle of the mess, he was just 3.4 seconds off the lead as the pack was very tight. He picked up some ground in the 2nd kilometer, moving up 7 spots into 42nd at 6:10.1, but he was now 10.6 seconds off the lead. At 3K, he was still in 43rd at 9:33.9 before losing a few spots in the 4th kilometer, coming through in 48th at 12:58.3. It was somewhere after the 4K when he dropped out of the race. Sometimes it's just not your day.
