In the Fall Interscholastic, page 27, under Item II. Rules and Regulations, Item D states that "An individual must have competed in no fewer than five regularly scheduled interscholastic meets to enter the Regional and State Meets."
I contacted WVSSAC Director Dan Comer, who is in charge of Cross Country about this item as it could restrict a runner who was injured in the first half of the season from competing in the Regional and State Meets if they did not return in time to compete in 5 meets. If you're a team that carries a light racing schedule, it could really be a problem.
He responded that "...an injured runner is classified as an extenuating circumstance. Communication to this office from schools in this situation will be exempt.."
If you have an athlete that might not meet the abitrary 5 meet requirement, I urge you to contact Dan Comer at the WVSSAC with the name(s) of athletes that have been injured and might not meet this requirement.
