The Power Rankings are directly derived from the individual runner rankings, basically scoring them as if they were a cross country meet, and the runners finished just as they are ranked. The Power Rankings will gain validity as the season progresses and runners rise or drop to their true status.
The pre-season rankings are nothing more than last year's final rankings with the Seniors removed and some off-season additions made. Progress made in track season is not reflected, and incoming Freshmen and other newcomers are also not reflected.
