REGION I AAA Championships

 

Teams:   Bridgeport, Brooke, Buckhannon-Upshur, John Marshall, Morgantown, Preston, University, Wheeling Park

 

Location: Sonneborn Shelter (near Wheeling Park HS and the actual Wheeling Park)

 

Course Description:  The opening 1000 meters is flat with turns.  It goes around the shelter and the soccer fields.  The next 3000 meters is rolling and through the woods.  The final 1000 is the opening 1000 in reverse.  The first and last 1000 meters are completely spectator friendly.  There are two road crossings, the first at just past the 1000-meter mark and the other at 2500 meters.  The first and second miles and the 3k will be marked in paint.

Schedule: 

Course tour – 8:00 am to 9:45 am. 

10:00 am:  Girls Varsity

10:45 am:  Boys Varsity

Entry Deadline: Sunday, October 15, 2023-HARD DEADLINE

You can enter up to 10 athletes for the regional meet.    

Only 7 of the 10 entered may run in the race.

All entries must include grade level/class.

All entries must be completed on RaceTimeEntry.com

Please make sure that the names of the athletes that you enter are on your eligibility certificate and that they are spelled correctly.

 

Tents/Spectators:  Tent city will be located right next to the shelter and spectators are free to go anywhere but inside the rope line or on the course.

 

STATE MEET QUALIFICATION PROCESS:

To qualify as an INDIVIDUAL:  Each region will qualify 20% of the total number of contestants that start the regional race to the state meet, inclusive of those individuals that qualified as a team qualifier. A minimum of 10 individuals will qualify from each region. Regular math rounding (.5 & up, round up, below .5, round down) will apply.  

To qualify as a TEAM: This depends on how many complete teams (5 or more runners) start the race in your regional.  0-5 full teams, top 2 qualify.  6-9 full teams, top 3 qualify.  10 or more, top 4 teams qualify.

COACHES, PLEASE GET 5 RUNNERS TO THE LINE IF POSSIBLE!!!  7 IS EVEN BETTER!!!

 

Coaches Packet: Packets will be available at the meet site on arrival and will be located in the concession stand.

 

Admission Fee: WVSSAC stipulates spectators will be charged an entry fee: of $6.00 for adults, $5 for students.  Tickets will be presold by the home school.

    

Awards: 

First place team will receive a plaque and top ten boys and girls will earn a medal.
