2023 Region I – Single A Championship

Location:   The course is located in Cokeley Recreation Area at North Bend State Park on the Harrisville side of the park.  The course is viewer friendly and almost entirely a grass surface.  We will have use of the bathhouse facilities at the campground including restrooms and showers.
Parking will be in a field near the start/finish line. Tents may be set up in state park camping sites, someone will direct you where to park buses and set up tents upon entering the park.

Directions: We STRONGLY recommend using the Ellenboro exit from RT 50 and follow the signs to North Bend.   For teams coming from the Parkersburg direction the Cairo exit will be a very unpleasant trip to the course especially on a bus.  The entrance to Cokeley Recreation Area is 6.7 miles from US Rt 50 and approximately 1.5 miles from the intersection of Rt 16 & Rt 31 in Harrisville.

Course: The 2023 A Regional Championship will be held at the same location as the Ritchie County Invitational during the regular season (Saturday, September 30th) if you’d like to preview it.  The course is also held at a state park and open to the public at any time. It will not be fully mowed until the week before September 30th due to the mowing of hay.

Admission: $7 for Adults, $5 per Student – required by WVSSAC

-          All athletes must be on eligibility sheet with names spelled correctly

-          All entries must indicate class/grade level

-          Enter 10, Run 7 – any of those 10 can run at the State Meet if your TEAM qualifies

Deadline: All entries and rosters must be received by Sunday, October 15th, 2023

Qualifying for State Meet:

To qualify as an INDIVIDUAL:  Each region will qualify 20% of the total number of (A) contestants that start the regional race to the state meet, inclusive of those individuals that qualified as a team qualifier. A minimum of 10 individuals will qualify from each region. Regular math rounding (.5 & up, round up, below .5, round down) will apply.  

To qualify as a TEAM: This depends on how many complete teams (5 or more runners) start the race in your regional.  If only. 1 full team in your classification starts in your regional, it qualifies.  If 2-5 teams in your classification start at your regional, the top 2 qualify.  If 6-9 teams in your classification start at your regional, the top 3 qualify.  If more than 10 teams in your classification start at your regional, the top 4 qualify.

Lodging:

If your parents or team are looking for lodging, please check out the Sleep Inn located in Ellenboro, WV or North Bend State Park Lodge and ask for the rooms set aside for cross country.
