Meet: Class AAA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 30, 2021
Predicted Class AAA Boys Team Results
University is the prohibitive favorite to repeat as champion. I have them putting
four guys on the podium. In many of their meets, they were the lone WV team. When they
have been against in state teams, they have looked even stronger than what they're ranked.
Hurricane and Wheeling Park should have a good battle for the 2nd spot. I have Hurricane
getting it by 12 points, but at just 2-3 spots per guy, that spot is very much in play.
Anyone else cracking the top 3 would be a surprise. Woodrow Wilson and Cabell Midland
would have the best shots.
1. University 34
2. Hurricane 71
3. Wheeling Park 83
4. Woodrow Wilson 121
5. Cabell Midland 143
6. Morgantown 171
7. Jefferson 176
8. Washington 199
9. Parkersburg South 217
10. Martinsburg 282
11. George Washington 329
12. St. Albans 333
Predicted Class AAA Boys Top 25
Josh Edwards again comes in as the easy favorite. While the rankings show just a 10 point
(5 second) advantage, I'll honestly be surprised if anyone is within 30 seconds if he really
goes after it. Hopefully, he'll make a run at Jacob Burcham's course record. I really
struggled with the 2nd spot. I went back and forth a few times but I ultimately went with
Franklin Angelos for the spot. He has soundly beaten most of the other top end guys and has
some very nice out-of-state showings. I moved Rocco DeVincent into the 3rd position. It
won't be a surprise at all if he claims the 2nd spot. The Hurricane duo of Ty Steorts and
Aaron Kidd have the 3rd and 4th positions. They've gone back and forth a few times this season,
but Steorts has taken the last 4 races, albeit all by very small margins (the largest at 7
seconds). Aiden Kneeland is slotted into the 6th position. He hasn't battled the other top
end guys much, but he wasn't dramatically far behind the Hurricane duo at Ripley and has
been pretty consistent. Nick Kennedy is in the 7th spot. He's been in excellent form since
his return early in the season. He was very close behind Kneeland at Ripley. Ryan Blohm
moves into the 8th spot. He's been strong all season and his OVAC and Regional runs were
excellent. I've moved Drew Zundell up to 9th in tandem with Blohm as that is frequently how
they've run this year. That puts Kyle de Nobel into the 10th position. He hasn't competed
against any of these guys at all during the season, so it's really hard to tell exactly where
he fits in. He has been very consistent, though. As usual, the list of true podium contenders
extends past the 15 mark..
