2020 KNIGHT NIGHT
XC RELAYS – COVID 19 EDITION

The
Preston High Cross Country team would like to invite you to the 14th Annual Knight Night XC Relays. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, we will be
hosting the middle school and high school races on different nights. The middle school race will be held on Friday,
September 11th and the high school race will be on Saturday, September
12th. We will need to
drastically reduce the number of teams and spectators at both events. The middle school meet
will have 14 teams from Preston, Monongalia, Taylor, and Marion counties and a
maximum of 35 spectators from each school.
Each team will be permitted 2-3 relay teams per gender. The high school meet
will have 11 teams from Preston, Monongalia, Marion, Harrison,
Pleasants and Putnam counties and a maximum of 50 spectators from each school. Each team will be permitted to have 3-4 teams
per gender. Spectator tickets will be mailed
to each school prior to the meet. Spectators
must be parents / guardians or immediate family members. Spectators will not be admitted without a
ticket. Schools from counties that are in
the red or orange range will not be permitted to attend the event per WVSSAC guidelines. Likewise, if Preston County were to be in the
red or orange, the event will be cancelled.
Knight
Night Relays will be staged at dusk / dark and the course will be lit by the
lights of Knights Stadium, the Preston Baseball Field, and the Dr. John Trenton
Track & Field facility. In addition,
supplemental lighting will be provided by tiki torches, glow sticks, fire
trucks, and diesel light towers. We are
planning on having a fireworks at the conclusion of
each meet.
The
course is a modified loop and will start and finish inside Knight’s
Stadium. Athletes will run the majority
of the first mile of the existing course (including Hayfield Hills) before
heading back towards the stadium. Runners
will then travel in a counter clockwise around the football field before
handing off to the next runner.
When: Friday, Sept. 11th (Middle
School) / Saturday, Sept. 12th (High School)

Knight Night XC Relays will take
place at
Tentative Schedule:
7:30
p.m. - Limited Open Race for athletes not on full relays
8:03 p.m. - Sunset
8:30 p.m. - Boys
Relay Race (MS on Fri. and HS on Sat.)
9:30 p.m. - Girls
Relay Race (MS on Fri. and HS on Sat.)
Awards: The
top three relay teams in each division will receive t-shirts.
Concessions: Hot
and cold concessions will be available as well as the official Knight Night XC Relays T-shirt.
Entry Fee: The
entry fee will be $25 per relay team. For
the high school and middle school races, make checks payable to Preston High Cross Country. The admission
fee for all spectators is $5.00.
Entry Method: Due
to the relay format of the event, coaches will be provided a Microsoft Excel
template that will be emailed back to us.
