Meet: AAA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held November 2, 2019
Predicted AAA Boys Team Results
So this might be the best team race of the day. As it has been all season, long, there
are three teams very much in the hunt. And of course, I ended up with a tie. That, of
course, brings it to the 6th man, and I've ended up with Morgantown taking the win on
the tie-breaker over Cabell Midland. I have University 13 points behind. They have a
couple question marks as 2 of their top 5 didn't run at the Regional (Palmer and Stupar).
I used Palmer in the picks, but not Stupar. Palmer hasn't raced since 9/28, but I believe
he'll be in there. I just don't know if he'll be 100%. If Stupar runs and runs the way
he did in his last couple meets, I think that puts them into the very slight favorite position.
But if he's still injured, then he probably wouldn't be able to run at that level. There
is definitely no clear favorite. Preston if just 15 points behind University and ready to
move into the top 3 if anyone falters.
1. Morgantown 85
2. Cabell Midland 85
3. University 98
4. Preston 113
5. Hurricane 158
6. Jefferson 162
7. George Washington 183
8. Hampshire 188
9. Woodrow Wilson 195
10. Riverside 230
11. Parkersburg South 231
12. Musselman 242
Predicted Boys AAA Top 25
Josh Edwards comes in as the favorite, having not lost to a WV runner all season.
However, statistically, Wyatt Hanshaw had the best Regional performance of the bunch
and has a pair of runs on the State Meet course that equaled or bettered Edwards'
State Meet run from last year. Reportedly, Cole Friend is a bit banged up. He didn't
run his conference meet, and was only 4th at his Regional, but he is a big meet performer,
so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here and slotting him 3rd. Full disclosure,
at the end of September, I would have had him in the 2nd spot (despite Hanshaw running
him down on the track at the St. Mary's XC Festival). Jackson Core gets the nod for the
4th spot off an outstanding regional run. Chris Lucas just missed out on the podium last
year but he's looking pretty solid for a spot this year, and I've dropped him into the
5th spot. I moved Rocco DeVincent into the 6th position. He's been strong all season.
I have Cooper Gibson in the 7th spot, and as I'm typing this up, I kind of regret not
moving him into the 6th spot, but I'm sticking with my original pick. I have Sam Lerose
right behind him in 8th. He had a great State Meet run last year and could easily move up.
I feel pretty good about those 8. Things get pretty tight after this with a number of
people having legitmate shots. I put Trevor Carson in the 9th position. I put Franklin
Angelos into the 10th position. He's been pretty solid all season, and at one point, I
would have had him in the top 6. Look out for Jonah Stevens, who led Carson late at the
regional before going down to dehydration. And look out for Keegan Barnette, who has had
a couple big-time runs including the Regional, which was statistically the 5th best Regional
Performance in the field.
The predicted top 25 is as follows. If you want to know where you are
