University's Josh Edwards has been named the 2019 Gatorade Male Cross Country Runner of the Year for West Virginia. Edwards puut away field in the Class AAA State Meet, eventualy winning by nearly 15 seconds in 15:49. He did his work gradually, extending his lead slightly at every checkpoint in leading University to the team title.
Edwards was undefeated against in-state competition on the season, and clocked a 15:24 at the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State. His only losses on the season were to a trio of Pennsylvania ahletes who finishes 1st, 4th, and 6th at the PA State Meet. Edwards capped the season with a strong 15th place finish at Footlocker South, where he ran a 15:19. He was the 5th place underclassman and 1st place Sophomore in the Seeded race.
