Knight Night Relays is a very unorthodox race, so below are
some very important rules and information about our race.
1. The
golden rule of the KNR is to keep your runners in the proper order. If
you need to change a relay, be sure to see Paul Sines A.S.A.P. We will
only allow athletes with the proper bib number / letter to start their leg of
the race. Be sure that runners of the same relay team stay together (ex.
62A, 62B, 62C, 62D).
2. At the beginning of the
race, the only runners allowed on the football field are those with the letter
A / orange bib numbers. All other athletes will need to warm-up in the
softball field. After the “A” runners take off, an announcement will be
made for the “B” runners (blue bib numbers) to enter the football field.
This process with be repeated for the “C” (pink numbers) and “D” runners (green
numbers).
3. Every race will be started
with fireworks. Athletes are reminded that they start when they hear the
“pop / explosion.” We will also let off fireworks as the leading team
enters the stadium.
4. Coaches, athletes, and
members of the media are the only ones allowed on the football field.
Please remind parents to stay in the bleachers.
5. The top three relay teams
in each race will receive trophies. In the high school division we will
have separate awards for A-AA and AAA.
6. We will attempt to get
relay splits for each athlete.
I
have attached a course map to better explain the route of the
runners. An even better way to understand our race is to view this
video from last year's event.
Prior
to the middle school races on Saturday, August 25th, we will sponsor an open
race for children in 8th grade and under. The open race will
begin at 5:45 p.m. and there is not a fee to participate. Please
send any children down to the football field at 5:15 p.m. and we will
get them registered. There are no awards for this
event.
We have expanded our schedule slightly to accommodate all the
additional runners. Below is the updated schedule.
5:45 - Open Elementary Race (1.5 miles)
6:15 p.m. - Boys MS Relay Race (4 x 1.5 mile relay)
7:15 p.m. - Girls MS Relay Race (4 x 1.5 mile relay)
8:30 p.m. - Boys HS Relay Race (4 x 1.5 mile relay)
9:15 p.m. - Girls HS Relay Race (4 x 1.5 mile relay)
In the high school division we will give out awards to the top
three AAA and AA-A relay teams. In the middle school we will give out
awards to the top three relay teams.
The
official KNR XC Festival shirt will be a hot commodity. If you
would like to order your shirts in advance, please send me an email
with the color and sizes you would like me to set aside. The shirts
will be available in canary yellow, sapphire, orange, hot pink,
and sport gray in sizes small, medium, large, XL, and XXL. The
