Meet: AAA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 28, 2017
Predicted AAA Boys Team Results
Morgantown has been pretty dominant all year. That shouldn't change on Saturday.
It's not inconceivable that they win it without placing an individual on the podium.
It's also not inconceivable that they could put 3 or 4 guys on the podium. They
run a great pack. I have Hurricane in the 2nd spot. They also have a great pack
mentality. If they're firing on all cylinders, they could make things interesting.
I have Parkersburg in the 3rd spot. They could easily move into 2nd. Woodrow Wilson
has great top-end firepower. I have them with 2 of the top 3 spots and a real possibility
of a third getting on the podium. They lack the depth of the other top teams, though,
so unless they get a big-time step forward performance, it will be difficult for them
to make the podium. However, statistically, their Regional performance was 2nd only
to Morgantown, so the possibility is there. I do only have 19 points separating 2nd
and 5th. University would be the next most likely to make a leap onto the podium.
They would definitely need someone to take a very large step forward, or have 3-4-5
move up en masse.

Predicted Boys AAA Top 25
This should be a fun race. Philip White held the top spot in the rankings for much
of the season. Barbera has taken over that spot at the end. Barbera has been
running extremely well and unlike last year, appears to be healthy heading into
the weekend. He also won the battle at the State Track Meet in the 3200. The
relevance of that is limited, but it's there. I'm going with Barbera. I give
White the 2nd spot. Ryan Vaught has had a great season and gets the 3rd spot
courtesy of back-to-back wins over Jacob Birurakis. Birurakis gets the 4th position.
The ever-consistent Ward Ries gets slotted into the 5th spot. Ian Domenick has
run extremely well late in the season while pulling double duty with Soccer.
Things start getting more complex after this. I've droppped Andrew Jones into the
7th position. He's one of those rare runners that has gained points in every
meet this season. That makes for a nice upward trajectory. I have Cole Friend
in the 8th position. He's had a very strong upward trajectory as well and edged
out Jones at the Regional. He also owns a win over Ries during the season. I
put Andrew Christy in the 9th position over Michael Gharib based on wins in the
last two meets. There are a number of athletes that have very legitimate shots
at cracking the top 10.
The predicted top 25 is as follows. If you want to know where you are
