Meet: A-AA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 28, 2017
Predicted A-AA Boys Team Results
East Fairmont will come in as the favorite. It's not an overwhelming favorite, but I do
have them further ahead of 2nd than I have 2nd ahead of 5th. That being said, it's not
unreasonable to think that any of the front five could win the whole thing. East Fairmont
can't really afford for anyone to have a bad day as their depth is limited. I have Philip
Barbour in the 2nd spot, just 5 points ahead of Fairmont Senior, who is just 3 points ahead
of Bridgeport, who is just 2 points ahead of Winfield. Philip Barbour appears to have the
best depth. I don't know if they've had a meet all year in which they all ran well. If
that happens, they can certainly win it. Fairmont Senior will need a step-up performance
from their #5 to try to take the spot. Bridgeport is in a very similar position, needing
big time runs from someone to try to take it. Statistically, Winfield had the 2nd best
regional race of the group. If their # 5 steps up, they're very much in the mix. It should
be a fun team race. I have Doddridge in 7th as the top Class A team to win the Class A
title.

Predicted Boys A-AA Top 25
Aaron Withrow comes in as the solid favorite. He has a couple runs under the 16:00
mark, and no Class A-AA runner has been within 10 seconds of him. Brady Gorrell
has been exceptional this season and has run with great discipline. Mark Duez gets
the nod over Mark Ellis for 3rd by virtue of taking 2 of 3 head-to-head matchups.
Ellis, however, did just knock off Gorrell at the Regional, so you have to believe
he's certainly a contender for at least 2nd. Danah Phillips is the pick for 5th.
He's been steady all season and generally finishes relatively close to Duez. Bryce
Jarrell has also been good all season. He gets the edge over Lumadue for the 6th
spot courtesy of a 3-0 head-to-head mark in their meetings. However, the largest
of those wins is by just 4 seconds, so it could certainly go the other way. Carter
Lipscomb has had a strong freshman campaign, and he owns a couple wins over Phillips.
Walker Hashman has come on strong late in the season. Luke Wilson is the pick for
the final spot. This should be very tight for these last few spots as there are
several others right on the cusp of being the pick for a top 10 spot. No one
had better be off their game.
