Dear Adminstrators and
Coaches,
We look forward to hosting your school at the
Region I Cross Country Championship on Thursday, October 19th. I
wanted to make you aware of a few changes we have planned for tomorrow.
Course Change
Due to construction of some bleachers at the
track & field facility, we may elect to run in front of the bleachers along
the fence line of the track instead of behind the bleachers. We will remeasure the course and make any adjustments necessary to
retain the proper length of the course. If our maintenance staff has
things cleaned up in time we will run our traditional route.
Bib Numbers
In an effort to highlight the top athletes in
our region, we will be assigning each athlete the bib number that corresponds
with their RunWV ranking in the region.
The top ten athletes will have bib numbers that are lime green whereas
everyone else will have a gray bib number. Below are the top ten athletes
in our region. Please let me know if there are any errors or if an
athlete is not able to run tomorrow.
Awards
Due to a WVSSAC rule change that now allows
apparel to be given out as an award, we will be presenting the top ten
finishers t-shirts. The shirts will be "dry-fit"
style and available in sizes small, medium, and large. The WVSSAC will
furnish plaques to the top boys and girls team in the region. Former
Preston High Athletic Director, Mike Contic, will be
handing out the awards in the stadium.
Meet Referee / Games
Committee
Long time meet meet
referee, Dave Hickman, will be the starter. The games committee will
consist of Bruce Huggins (Preston High Athletic Director), Ed Frohnapfel (University Head Coach), and Jacob Galik
(Wheeling Park Head Coach).
Live Broadcast
We will be having a live broadcast of the Region
I AAA XC Championship on our county schools website: www.prestoncountyschools.com
Parking
Preston High will be practicing an emergency
evacuation procedure tomorrow so buses will be loading behind the vocational
school. This will free up the front of the school for buses and
personal vehicles to park.
Number of Teams
Competing / Qualification
This is just a reminder that a team must have
five runners on the line at the start of the race in order to considered a full team. With only seven teams in our
region, it is imperative that each school have five legal runners on the line
if at all possible. Failure to do so will decrease the number of teams we
have qualify for the state championship. Based
on entries on www.racetimeentry.com all seven schools will have
full boys teams and six of the seven girls teams will
be complete. I will mention that one of the schools only has five runners
entered.
If you have any questions or concerns about the
Region I AAA Cross Country Championship please let me know. We look
forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Paul W. Martin
