Meet: A-AA Girls State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 31, 2015
Predicted A-AA Girls Team Results
This one should be interesting. Coming off their Regional victory, Berkeley Springs is
the favorite, but not an overwhelming one. Frankfort has knocked them off a couple times
during the season, but I ended up with Philip Barbour, who sat at the top spot most of the
season, in the 2nd position. I think any of these three teams could walk away with the
title. I ended up with Berkeley Springs taking it by 15 over Philip Barbour and 18 over
Frankfort. Nicholas is the next contender. While they don't have a front-runner, they
have a really solid group. I have them 17 points off Frankfort. Things tighten up a lot after
that with just 18 points separating Nicholas in 4th from East Fairmont in 6th. The 3-4-5
runners for these teams will determine the outcomes.
1. Berkeley Springs 89
2. Philip Barbour 104
3. Frankfort 107
4. Nicholas 124
5. Doddridge 135
6. East Fairmont 142
7. Charleston Catholic 157
8. Braxton 170
9. Wirt 187
10. Wheeling Central 189
11. Richwood 220
12. PikeView 309
Predicted A-AA Girls Top 25
I love this race. There is no clear favorite, and I can see any of the top four winning
the title. I ended up going with Stephanie Golden for the win. I keep thinking back to
her excellent State Track Meet performances. That doesn't always translate, but I don't
think anyone wants her anywhere near them when they come onto the track. I put Desirae
Schoonover in the 2nd spot. She and Golden are tied for the top spot in the rankings, but
they have not faced each other this season. I put Jessica Melvin in 3rd. She just beat
Golden pretty soundly at their Regional meet. She has also beaten Schoonover, though
Schoonover has beaten her twice since then. Butcher beat Golden at the Regional as well
and she always performs well at the State Meet. I put Amelia Sebok in the 5th position.
She has only squared off with any of the big 4 one time, and that was at the Chick-Fil-A
Invitational, where she finished 2nd to Schoonover and ahead of Melvin. I put Olga
Hawranick in the 6th spot. She beat Schoonover at Cameron in early October. Kierra
Hodge gets the 7th spot. She has a win over Schoonover as well and has beaten Hawranick
several times. I put Amanda Lupton in the 8th position. She's beaten Hodge a couple
times. Rachel Rogers is slotted for 9th. She just beat Lupton and Hodge at the Regional.
I gave the final spot to Caitlin Cowell. Like Sebok, she hasn't ran against most of the
top end competition, but she's usually not dramatically far behind Sebok. the list of
true potential candidates for a podium spots goes almost 20 deep.
