Meet: A-AA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 31, 2015
Predicted A-AA Boys Team Results
This isn't quite the runaway that it was last year. Bridgeport has been # 1 all year
and is clearly the favorite, but it's not a complete given. I do still have them
winning by 18, which is pretty significant, but that can become even by three guys
from Ritchie moving up 3 spots and three guys from Bridgeport moving down 3 spots,
which is certainly not outlandish. Berkeley Springs is really the only other team
with a legitimate shot at the podium. They scored within 8 of Bridgeport at the
Regional, so I'm sure they believe they can win. It will take a super effort, though,
as I have them 25 points behind Ritchie. The next team is 70 points back. But that's
where things get really interesting. I have only 20 points separating 4th from 8th.
1. Bridgeport 58
2. Ritchie 76
3. Berkeley Springs 101
4. Braxton 171
5. St. Marys 173
6. Nicholas 180
7. Buffalo 184
8. East Fairmont 191
9. Frankfort 203
10. Ravenswood 209
11. Keyser 211
12. Wyoming East 356
13. Sherman 361
14. Richwood 363
Predicted Boys A-AA Top 25
I went with Hayden Harrison for the top spot. He doesn't hold the top ranking after dropping
a load of points while running with an illness. I'm assuming he has recovered from that.
Hunter Deem sits atop the rankings, but in the two meetings with Harrison, Harrison won both
by over 30 seconds. Of course, the most recent of those was on September 12th, so the
relevance is limited. I put Daniel Cooper in the 3rd spot. He's tied with Harrison in
the rankings and has beaten Deem on a number of occasions. I put Steven Shetler in 4th
after his strong regional run. He sits 4th in the rankings as well. Timmy Kinney gets
the 5th spot. He has run well late in the season. Mark Ellis is the 6th pick. He beat
Deem at the 10/3 Cameron meet. I put Seth Backus in the 7th spot. He does show wins over
Ellis, Kinney, and Cooper on the season. Leland Henderson has been solid all season long
and shows a mid-season win over Shetler. I put Jimmy Lacaria in 9th. A few weeks ago,
I would have had him contending for 3rd, but he has had a very rough October and has been
dropping points in increasing quantities. I don't know if the issue has been injury or
illness. If he's at 100%, he almost assuredly moves up a bit. If he's still battling it,
he could easily drop out of the top 10. I put Hunter Riffle in the 10th position. His
last two meets have gone very well, and he's climbed to 5th in the rankings. However, those
two meets were Thursday meets, meaning he had no football game the night before. If he
had no game, I'd probably place him in the top 3 or 4, but there is a game. That means
it may be a struggle to reach the podium. I may regret only putting Logan Kerby
in 11th as he ran really well at Midland on September 5th, beating 7 of the guys
placed above him in these predictions. Unlike most of the other races, I only have
the podium contender list going about 13 deep. Anyone beyond that would be a surprise.
