Meet: A-AA Girls State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held November 1, 2014
Predicted A-AA Girls Team Results
This looks like it will be Berkeley Spring's race. I have them winning by 27 points. Philip
Barbour does have a shot if they run really well as a group. I don't think anyone else can
pull it off. Charleston Catholic gets the nod for 3rd with a very strong front three, but I
only have them in that spot by 4 points. Doddridge, Williamstown, East Fairmont, and Frankfort
man the next four spots, and really could finish in any order. As is typical in Cross Country,
the 3-4-5 runners will likely be the ones that determine the finishing order. If a kid picked
65th can pull off a 40th, it's huge for the team, and it happens every year. Who will do it
this year?
1. Berkeley Springs 52
2. Philip Barbour 79
3. Charleston Catholic 127
4. Doddridge 131
5. Williamstown 147
6. East Fairmont 153
7. Frankfort 161
8. Oak Glen 174
9. Nicholas 208
10. PikeView 236
11. Wirt 256
12. Richwood 306
Predicted A-AA Girls Top 25
This one is quite a mess. There is no clear cut favorite. Early in the season, it looked like
Danielle Haynes was the one to beat. Mid-season, Kinsey Reed and Danielle Hodge took over.
Julianna Butcher then beat Haynes and Reed in a meet. Alicia Parsons had some rough meets but just
finished a strong 2nd at the Regional. Any of these five could take the title and it wouldn't
be a shock. In the end, I went with Kierra Hodge for the win, with Danielle Haynes in second.
I went with Alicia Parsons in 3rd. Kinsey Reed has struggled the last couple meets and only had
the 15th best Regional run in the field. She typically runs very well at Midland, though, and
history indicates a strong State Meet performance for her. I dropped Julianna Butcher into the
5th position, but as I said, she knocked off Haynes and Reed at the PVC Championships on 10/14.
So, Haynes and Parsons just beat Hodge at the Regional. Hodge beat Parsons badly at the Big 10
Championships. Butcher beat Haynes and Reed soundly at the PVC Championships. Reed beat Haynes
soundly at the Allegany meet on 9/30. Hodge nipped Reed at Berkeley Springs on 9/27 with both
having a gap on Haynes. Clear as mud, right? That's what I thought. Things get pretty tight
after that. I have Hailey Miller in the 6th spot and Kasey McNamara in the 7th position. Either
of those could crack the top 5. Miller has done an excellent job coming back from a torn ACL
last basketball season and has continually gotten better as the season went along. I put Taylor
Treadway in the 8th spot. She's been very steady all season. Olga Hawranick has also had a
strong overall season and gets the 9th spot. Lavania LeMasters gets the 10th spot. She's been
somewhat inconsistent. She could easily climb up into that top 7 or fall out of the top 15.
This one is really very close. The list of reasonable All-State picks goes about 20 deep. The
weather will play a role. Who will hold up in the cold and possible rain and snow? And who will
fold?
