Meet: A-AA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held November 1, 2014
Predicted A-AA Boys Team Results
As with last year, this appears to be a Bridgeport runaway. They may not get any
individuals on the podium, but they may well put all 7 runners in the top 25. No
one else has that kind of depth. I've got Webster in the
2nd position, followed by Ritchie and Wirt. These spots will likely be determined by
the performance of the 3-4-5 runners. I have 32 points separating 2nd and 4th, so in
those 3-4-5 spots, a move up or down of 5 or 6 places will be significant. I have spots
five through nine separated by just 22 points, so a lot of movement could happen there
as well.
1. Bridgeport 67
2. Webster 125
3. Ritchie 141
4. Wirt 157
5. Nicholas 171
6. Philip Barbour 176
7. Berkeley Springs 181
8. Williamstown 189
9. Buffalo 193
10. Frankfort 203
11. Doddridge 248
12. Sherman 276
13. PikeView 302
14. Westside 316
Predicted Boys A-AA Top 25
Hayden Harrison and Brettley Harris have traded the top spot back and forth a couple times
during the season, and they ended the year tied for the top spot. Harrison won both regular
season meetings, but with both occurring September 6th or earlier, the relevance of those is
limited. Harris has received the benefit of running more difficult courses. It is easier
to bolster your score on easier courses because the medium-to-low ranked runners don't hold
up as well as they do on flat and fast courses. So, all things being considered, I went with
Harrison for the top spot, but it was a difficult pick. Jason Weitzel had a rough start to
the season, but has rebounded to run well late. I've moved Glenn McMillan up to the 4th spot.
He beat Daniel Cooper on several occasions and gave away 19 points at the Cameron meet. Cooper
gets the fifth spot. He's beaten McMillan a couple times. I gave Austin Hayes the 6th position.
He's battling injury late in the season that has hampered his performance. He was running top
3 or 4 caliber races. If he's healthy, he can move up. If the injury lingers, he could drop
several positions. I put Steven Shetler in the 7th position. He hasn't run against any of the
other top level contenders except for Leland Henderson since August 30th. Hunter Riffle could
go as high as 4th or 5th or could drop out of the top 10. He plays football, and has a game
Friday night. His last two meets, were on Thursdays, and he didn't have a game the night before.
It matters. Leland Henderson gets the 9th spot. He was running top 5 caliber races early in
the season, but has struggled late. Hunter Deem gets the nod for the final podium position. He's
been solid all season, but has stepped forward the last few meets.
