The final race of the day was the Class AAA Girls. This was expected to be a blowout for Morgantown, and indeed it was with Morgantown turning out an incredible 30 score. They placed 5 in the top 10, 6 in the top 14, and all 7 in the top 20. Individually, Amelia Paladino took the lead early, and then took complete control mid-way through, pulling away for a 36 second win.

The first checkpoint is the top of the hill, which is about 0.7 miles into the race. At this point University's Amelia Paladino had already taken the lead and came through in 4:07. Morgantown's Brynn Harshbarger had already assumed the 2nd spot, coming through in 4:11. Morgantown's Victoria Cooke was running in 3rd at 4:18. University's Abbey Harrison was running 4th at 4:20. Jefferson's Abby Colbert was in 5th at 4:24. She was trailed closely by three who came through in 4:25. That group was led by Preston's Kaitlyn Workman, followed by Capital's Peyton Panger, and then Morgantown's Allison Lynch in 6th through 8th, respectively. Three more came through at 4:26 with Morgantown's Andrea Pettit in 9th, Hurricane's Tori Dent in 10th, and Cabell Midland's Jorden Thornton in 11th. Hampshire's Ashleigh Martin was in 12th at 4:27. The next checkpoint was at the WVU Extension service building at approximately 1.4 miles. Amelia Paladino had started to pull away at this point, generating a 7 second lead. My watch smacked off the clipboard again and stopped, so I was without times, but mercifully, Hurricane Coach Jason Henley bailed me out with a running time, so I'm able to back my way into some times here. Paladino came through in about 8:14 with Brynn Harshbarger in 2nd at 8:21. Those two had pulled far away from the field. Abbey Harrison remained in 3rd at 8:42. Abby Colbert had moved into 4th in 8:43. Kaitlyn Workman had moved into 5th in 8:45. Victoria Cooke was holding 6th at 8:46. Allison Lynch and Andrea Pettit came through in 8:48 in 7th and 8th, respectively. Peyton Panger was in 9th in 8:50. Sydney Pineault was in 10th at 8:55. Kaylee Williams had moved up to 11th in 8:59. She was trailed closely by Jorden Thornton with the same time. Hannah Pineault had moved up to 13th in 9:01. Emily Schwendiman was up to 14th in 9:02. Ashley Martin matched that time in 15th. Tori Dent was running 16th in 9:06. Sarah Wills and Ali Cunningham were in 17th and 18th, respectively at 9:06. Brittney McMillion was in 19th at 9:07. Woodrow Wilson's Emily Fedders had moved into the top 20 at 9:08.

At my bonus footage area before the two mile mark, Amelia Paladino had extended her lead to double digits with an 11 second cushion over Brynn Harshbarger. Paladino came through in about 10:52 and Harshbarger came through at 11:03. Abbey Harrison remained in 3rd in 11:29 with Kaitlyn Workman close behind in 11:30. Abby Colbert had a slight edge over Victoria Cooke for 5th with both crossing in 11:35. Allison Lynch and Andrea Pettit both crossed in 11:37 in 7th and 8th, respectively. Peyton Panger was in 9th at 11:38. Sydney Pineault was in 10th at 11:45, and Hannah Pineault had moved up to 11th in 11:49. Then I moved off to the two mile.

At the two mile mark, Amelia Paladino had further stretched her lead. She came through in about 11:46. Brynn Harshbarger came through in 11:59. Abbey Harrison continued to hold a very slim lead over Kaitlyn Workman with both coming through in 12:25. They had gotten well away from the next group. Abby Colbert had a slight lead over Victoria Cooke for 5th with both crossing in 12:34. Allison Lynch and Andrea Pettit were still running 7th and 8th, respectively in 12:35. Peyton Panger remained in 9th at 12:38. Sydney Pineault was holding 10th in 12:43. Hannah Pineault was still in pursuit in 12:47, just ahead of Kaylee Williams in 12:48. Jorden Thornton was in 13th at 12:53. Emily Fedders had made the big move up to 14th, also in 12:53. Emily Schwendiman was in 15th in 12:55 with Brittney McMillion close behind in 12:56. Ashleigh Martin was holding 17th in 12:58. Sarah Wills was in 18th at 13:00. Hurricane's Joie Johnston had moved into 19th place in 13:04. Morgantown's Skylar Brooks had moved into 20th at 13:07.

Coming onto the track, it was all Amelia Paladino as she powered home to a stellar 17:47.32, taking the win by 36 seconds and smashing the Class AAA State Meet Record. Brynn Harshbarger easily held onto the 2nd spot in 18:23, which also beat the old Class AAA State Meet Record. Abbey Harrison pulled away from Kaitlyn Workman for 3rd with Harrsion clocking an 18:45 and Workman an 18:50. Abby Colbert held the 5th spot with 19:01. Allison Lynch pulled away for 6th in 19:04. In searching for the MVP this year, I ended up looking to the team that moved up multiple spots in the meet, and that was Cabell Midland. They had one runner who made a strong move up the charts. This runner moved up 13 spots and cut 12 team points which was instrumental in their rise from a predicted 7th place finish to an actual 5th place finish. For that reason, the 2012 RunWV MVP is Cabell Midland's Alex Ellis.

How did RunWV do on the predictions? Picking Morgantown was easy. University moved up a spot, Parkersburg moved up a spot, and Cabell Midland moved up a couple spots. Individually, 8 of the top 10 finished in the top 10. 13 of the top 15 finished in the top 15, and 23 of the predicted top 25 finished in the top 25. Those who made the move into the All-State Lineup were Morgantown's Allison Lynch (picked 12th, got 6th) and Morgantown's Andrea Pettit (picked 11th, got 7th). Those who moved into the top 25 were Joie Johnston (picked 27th, got 19th) and Musselman's Heather Jenkins (picked 28th, got 23rd). The big mover of the day was University's Katie Warner who climbed 14 places from a predicted finish of 50th to an actual finish of 36th. From a team standpoint, University had the best day, scoring 24 fewer points than predicted.

I offer my congratulations to the Morgantown girls. There was really no doubt all season that you were the standouts and you proved it in a big way. You were pegged for a ultra-low score and you bettered even that lofty prediction. You took 5 of the podium positions and put all 7 of your runners in the top 20. It was dominance at its finest.

I offer my congratulations to Amelia Paladino. You attacked from the beginning and you took control when it was time. You ran one of the finest races in course history. Good luck to you at Footlocker.

I offer my congratulations to the girls who shook up the predictions. You prove what I try to tell people every year. Rankings and predictions do not determine the finish. You determine the finish.
