Meet: AAA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 31, 2009
Predicted AAA Boys Team Results
This should be a great team race with two primary contenders and a third lurking slightly in
the background. Fairmont Senior has sat atop the rankings pretty much all season. Cabell
Midland has come on strong late in the season and closed that gap considerably. They're very
close throught the front five. It looks to me like Cabell Midland is stronger on three of
the front five positions and is better positioned if one of the front five falters. Fairmont
Senior has a large gap between number 5 and number 6, so if one of their five is off, they
could be in trouble. Jefferson would likely need very big time runs from Eric Graf and Jimmy
Munnis to contend for the title. Preston and Winfield should battle for 4th. I have the two
teams tied, but Preston gets the spot on the 6th runner. Preston probably has more upward
mobility of the two teams. Big days from a couple of their guys and they could challenge for a top 3.
1. Cabell Midland 58
2. Fairmont Senior 67
3. Jefferson 90
4. Preston 129 (Preston takes 4th on Tie-breaker)
5. Winfield 129
6. Parkersburg South 154
7. Hampshire 160
8. University 167
9. Elkins 225
10. George Washington 256
11. Hedgesville 259
12. Greenbrier East 304
Predicted Boys AAA Top 25
Cody Pelliccioni is the defending champion and is clearly the man to beat. He may not be 100% for
the State Meet and that could open things up, but that would be the only thing. Brandon Doughty
is given the nod over Dayton McVicker for 2nd. That should be close. Unfortunately the two haven't
had an opportunity to square off. I think when it comes down to it, Doughty will have the necessary
finishing speed. Those three really appear to be a fair amount ahead of the rest of the group.
Lucas Greza is given the nod for the next spot. Jacob Burcham could conceivably move up. He beat
McVicker at the Geico Classic and his ranking score has probably been hindered by the advancement
of his teammates over the 2nd half of the season, particularly since they were the only WV team
in a couple meets. Then things really get into tossup mode. Preston Whitney also beat McVicker
at Geico and was right on Burcham's heels in that meet. Patrick Stanton is actually ranked ahead of
Burcham and is a threat to move up. Logan Wojcik historically performs very well at the State Meet and
will have to do so to continue his All-State streak. Austin Rigsby has been very solid all season.
Patrick Jividen appears to have rebounded from his mid-season illness. He ran close to Burcham at
the Chick-Fil-A Invitational early in the season. Ryan Smith excelled at the Geico Classic, beating
several of those ranked ahead of him. Really, most of the top 25 has a shot to squeeze into the
top 10 without it being a tremendous shock. Shoot, I've got a couple guys outside the top 30 that
could make a run at it (cough...Butler...cough...Bowman...).
